My cat also gets scabs on the back of his neck, also a few other places, but mostly on the neck. I took him to the vet. His diagnosis was flea allergy dermatitis. I was told that just 1 flea will drive him nuts. If I don't use the flea treatment (Frontline or Advantage) he gets scabs all over him.
Does your cat always have this problem with the scabs? They also told me to give him a bath once a month, lol they have never tried to give my cat a bath and if they did they wouldn't try again, I almost didn't survive the ordeal.
The bath was suppose to help his dry skin I guess. My cat is constantly licking himself clean in fact he is obsessive compulsive about this. Look at your cats skin and coat, see if there are tiny white flakes like dandruff, if there are, she probably has the flea allergy or some other kind of dermatitis. The only way to know for sure though is a trip to the vet.
So even though you give your cat flea treatment, remember all it takes is 1 flea to cause the itching that causes scabs. Also if your cat stays indoors most of the time, there will still be fleas. Try getting a flea bomb and use it right after you give your cat the flea treatment, this
will also help.
P.S. Make sure you and your cat leave the area after you set off the bomb! Good luck

I had a cat that had this same problem and I found out from the vet that my cat was allergic to flea saliva and not the flea. If my cat was near any other animal and was touched or licked by it-this would transfer the saliva onto my cat and she would get these scabs. But to be safe and to find out for sure-you should take the cat to the vet.Hope this helps.

The scatch there a lot, especially fleas and dry skin. You should try some shampoo (even johnson's baby) or something recommeded by the vet. OR, better yet, I would let the vet was him. He definitely needs some revolution or frontline. Many cats have skin allergies and it is difficult. Vets can give you medication to help with the itching. Sounds like minor skin allergies and/or fleas or flea eggs.

Does your cat wear a collar? If so, make sure it's loose enough. I had a cat that got the same scabs but all around his neck from scratching at the collar cause it was too tight and he was trying to get it off. A trip to the vet will be helpful.

It probably is from fleas or maybe ticks from biting her. If it is, it is probably dry blood which resolves to a scab. Seek veternarian help and see if their is a medication for that. Because the one you're using probably isn't doing well on that situation of her's.

There could be two other reasons then for the scabs. 1 is that it could possibly be ear mites if the scabs are more to the sides of her neck - she could be trying to scratch her ears. 2 if you have a male cat, she could be in heat and your male cat ist trying to mate with her. Hope this helps :-)

I would guess that she might have a skin mite infestation.
Also thinking - was she bred by a male cat? She might have small scabs from the male's teeth on the back of her neck.

She may be allergic to her flea medication. Did she ever have a flea collar on? Cats (and dogs) can be allergic to that.

Her skin could be sensitive to laundry detergent too. If she sleeps on blankets or you wash her bed/sleeping area in detergent, you might want to change brands.

If she does go out it could be from other cats or seeings how it is winter she may have very dry skin that itches.
