My daughter used to have some mouth ulcers and from what I understand their caused by stomach upsets.....rather it be a stomach virus or just an upset, I think.
She can't relate it to that, but sometimes I think stress does these things to your stomach that you may not be aware of.
Her's were the inside of her mouth.....not like cold sores on the lips. I'm not sure from your question of which one you may mean.
Anyway, hope that helps a little. You could go to webmd.com and ask there...An answer may come up that's already in the database, or a doc will answer within a day or two.

There is a Herpes virus that is not the same as the sexually transmitted disease. Most cold sores are the same virus that can cause sores in the mouth.
Hopefully you have talked to both your dentist and your doctor about this.
If you have had chicken pox could maybe be shingles (yes in the mouth as it travels on nerves)

try getting crushed ice and stuffing it into your mouth to freeze it- sort of like how you could freeze sore shoulders or legs, but with your mouth.

Stretch out your mouth by saying things like "unique newyork", "ow now brown cow", and making your lips say E then O. do these drastically, a bunch of times

if your mouth is always sore, and you don't smoke, it could be cancer or some other disease- see a docter and ask him what to do, that would really be better than asking people on yahoo answers

Definitely see your dentist. Could be your diet, or stress. Try to avoid citrus, tomatoes, spicy foods. The supplement lysine is sometimes helpful for cold sores. But by all means see a professional. Good luck!
