People have been getting usable energy from wind turbines for hundreds and perhaps thousands of years.

Windmills have been attached to pumps to pull water from wells or pump it back over the dikes.

These days, most new wind turbines drive electrical generators and develop electrical energy. To be ultimately useful the electrical power is transformed to the required voltage and frequence to make it compatabile with local electrical grids.
