After years of never trying the stuff, I finally tried Velveeta cheese. I did exactly as the instructions say on the box for using the cheese as a dip (for corn chips) put it in the microwave for 6 minutes and stiring after 3 minutes. (I did use less cheese then the box suggested though.) Well, I start dipping and after about 15 minutes the cheese is hard and cold!!! I can heat it back up for about a minute but I get the same end result...Hard Cheese!!!What am I doing wrong? DId I use to little cheese and too long in the microwave? Is there another kind of cheese that would work better? I really want it to be like the kind of nacho cheese dip that you buy in a jar in the store or at a ballpark. It stays at dipping consistensy all the time. Or should I just buy the stuff in a jar? TIA!

Sweetie, add a splash of milk or heavy cream. It will keep it "thin".You may even want to try (to keep it warm) a fondue pot.I dont see why it would hurt.Add a little cream to the cheese.Investing in a fondue pot is worth the money. It can be used for a number of items and who doesnt love fondue? It is a very well worth the money investment.Until then,or if you dont want to invest in one, simply add a little milk or cream to the cheese.Dont add alot it will make it runny. You simply want it to keep smooth, not runny.Good luck hun and have a good night.

what you want to buy is up to you.. but you don't follow the instructions you tend to go off course.. too little cheese and too much time equals burnt/hard cheese... For my cheese dip I add salsa or a can of tomatoes and chili to it with some of the liquid to 3/4 of the block in cubes place in microwave for a few minutes stirring constantly until it is smooth.... Also try not using full power on it..

Good luck

Put some Colby cheese on your large chips and pop them in the toaster oven. I put a jalapeno slice on each and Velveeta sucks and is really bad for you.

try adding a little chili or salsa to the cheese. that makes for a couple of different yummy dips. try heating on the stove and like the others said, add a little milk to make it creamier if your going just plain cheese.

Try melting it in a crock pot. First, I just get it started in the microwave, then I put it and the rotel tomatoes in the crock pot. That way, once it melts, it will stay warm and gooey!

Maybe you could try heating Cheez Whiz instead of melting Velveeta
