How can anyone answer this question with any confidence until they know what sentience is - what it is and why it is that we are self-aware ?

Surely once we have the answer to that question - we would be better versed to answer the original one - or as I tend to summise - that it wouldn't needed to be asked at all ?

"The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible"

- as some of you will know this is a quote from Albert Einstein and this is what I am talking about - how can you know or RELY on what you may believe about why we are here and the meaning of life and whether there is a god or not - when we don't know why we are self-aware in the first place. Some chipanzees and maybe elephants and dolphins are the only other animals other than ourselves that can recognise themselves in a mirror.

Here's a thought - suppose being self-aware is like the film plot of the original Star Trek movie - the probe had amassed so much knowledge of the Universe that it had achieved conciousness - is that we as soon as we get the hang of life as soon as we've got an inkling of what's going on - we're too old to do anything about it and drop dead - is that what the tree and the serpant was all about - god if there is one doesn't want us to gain to much knowledge ?

I Have Faith in my Lord, that is how I know I believe in God!
The only Proof I need is my bible and the promise that Christ made to us that he is coming back. I can answer this with complete confidence because I Believe in God and I have Faith that he is my God!

What does one have to do with the other. Just because I can't explain something (either sentience or God) doesn't make it any less real. I know God is real and I believe in Him because of personal experience. I feel Him, I hear Him, He has healed me, provided for me, He interacts daily with me, He shows me things, reveals things to me....how much more proof do I need? Do I need Him to materialize in front of my eyes? No - people doubt their eyes all the time - they would say it is an hallucination. Some things must be taken on Faith and Faith must become the basis of knowledge. I know because He lives in me but I cannot show you that in a literal physical sense (nor would you believe even if I did) - still I know.

At anytime in my life that I would be asked that question, my answer would still be I believe in GOD. The creator that was not created, the maker of Heaven and Earth.

Sure I can answer the question. No, I don't believe in god. Or Odin. Or Santa. I don't need anymore info. 10,000 years of no proof is good enough for me.

And I do believe with every fiber of my being. Hebrews 11:1,6
Deuteronomy 6:4.
God first in your life and people will see that you believe and therefore will not have to ask you!

As some time in my life I was also asked if I believe in Santa.

God, Santa, Leprechauns, what's the difference?

If you don't have proof for something, then it is safe to say that it doesn't exist.

You are right, at some point I might be asked that question, but what does it matter. I don't even have to answer if I don't want to. I don't understand your point.

When.or if, you ever make personal contact with God you will know The Truth... and part of that Truth is that even though you will KNOW it is The Truth... you will never be able to prove it to anyone... That is a fact known to all of The True Christian Faith... We know with absolute certainty that God exists... but we can not "prove it"... that is solely God's prerogative to make himself known to whom he wishes to make himself known.
