my uncle has one of my w2 forms in louisiana i lived there last year but now im in texas he ask if he can fax the w2 form, or when i file does it have to be the original?

i am an accountant in texas...and i do taxes (way 2 many) we pretty much use it in any form it comes...fax is fine...last stub works as well as long as u can get the employer id number and read the info bring it in on a bananapeel it can be filed

Why don't you look into electronic filing. Go to www.irs.gov and you can do it for free. There you key in the info from your w-2 and sometimes you can upload it. Filing the traditional way, I don't know if a fax will work or not. I don't know about the state taxes. If you use software like Turbo Tax everything goes electronic, but it costs you a filing fee.

I used to fax copies of W-2's all the time when I did payroll for a multi-state company. No one ever told me they had a problem with filing. The IRS receives copies of all W-2's from the employer as well.

If you file electronically, you may not even have to send the W-2.

Fax will be fine. Get it and make a copy for yourself.

No necessarily, the clear fax copy is good.
