i live in a VERY small town in the texas panhandle and have a well mannered and well-tempered japanese chin (that is completely vaccinated) that i think would be great as a therapy dog for the elderly and children...how do i go about getting the training or license?

You should find a place that has CGC instructors. I have A THERAPY DOG too. You just take a test on a bunch of things like itting and passing a treat w/out eating it. It's simple if you go google CGC you should be able to find a place that has an instructor. Good luck having a therapy dog is lots of fun. I was in the hospital and a therapy dog visited me and it really made my day.

Hey Tiff,
I live in west Texas and would love to know what you find out.
I have a dog I have felt for a long time would be wonderful for this too but did not know where to start. Good luck, I think that is a wonderful thing you want to do.

You must take a training course. Do a web search for Therapy Dog Training.

Ask your vet. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
