An abscess is a localized of pus in any p[art of the body, caused by an infection. Treatments do vary, often require antibiotics. Most types are treatable. Go to this website for more information.

It is an open weeping (generally) circular wound. They are often cause by a sharp injury (say a cat claw). This happens when a lot of dirt or bacteria is 'injected' under the skin and gets infected. The body will created a lot of puss and other gunk to deal with it.

This gunk has nowhere to go (as the original puncture wound heaps quickly) so the wound generally bursts open - thus leaving a sore and weeping hole in your skin.

Generally it would not be life threatening - but that would depend a lot on your state of health and your personal and surrounding hygine.

Once the wound is open it generally drys and heals up in about a week. Keeping the wound clean with antiseptic is important.

If in doubt see a medical professional asap.

An abscess is a localized pocket of pus/infection, and it can occur just about anywhere in the body. As the infection occurs, the body' defense mechanisms try to kill it, and "wall" it off., and the body incredible as it is, sometimes can't fight infections alone. systemic antibiotics are used, and if the area is too big, sometimes doctors will lance it, clean the area and apply a
local antibiotic w/sterile dressings. Just depends on where it is.

An abscess is an infection and yes it can be treated but untreated it can become life threatening because it can get into your blood stream. Go to the Dr he'll give you anti-biotics and you'll be fine. Good luck.

an abcess is no more than a pocket of infection- most often in your mouth but can occur anywhere in your body. it can be life threatening if not treated immediately- because infection can spread to your other organs and into your blood, get into your heart and brain... its nothing to play around with- get some antibiotics fast-- besides- doesnt it hurt?
