Why is it that every single time that I clean out my kitties litter box they take turns seeing who can lay the biggest, stinkiest "bomb" ever inside there?

I clean the litter boxes out at least a couple of times per day and each time I walk away one hops back into what appears to be their favorite litter box and does "her business" and hops back out. It's as if they are trying to get the other one to stay away or show off, like some kind of competition. Is it just my imagination or they trying to outdo each other?

Yes, of course I love a public toilet that doesn't have other peoples urine and/or feces in it when I need to use the bathroom.

I just see how the kitties attack the litter box every single time I clean out "their stuff." I mean, I could clean the litter box out, one of the cats will hop in right away and the smell they leave behind will be atrocious. Then I clean it out AGAIN and it's like they store it up inside themselves in order to stink it up again, not even a few minutes later back in box again! LOL! Oh well...

Our cats do this, too. I think it's a competition, as you alluded to. Each one wants to claim the box as his or her "own" box. We have two boxes and five cats, but they usually go outside and only use the inside boxes as a last resort.

Maybe you should set up a video camera and catch 'em in action and provide yourself some entertaiment on long winters nights... :)

No I don't think they are trying to outdo each other, but sometimes I think it is just the novelty of having the litter box clean. Mine do the same thing, they watch when you take the litter out, and then hurry and jump in.. I'm just too happy that they choose to use the litter box....

I think the answer to your question is in your additional details. Who doesn't like to go to the bathroom in a place that's really clean? I have 2 cats that do the same thing as yours. Whats going on isn't really an issue its just something some cats do.
My other cats don't jump right into the clean boxes they wait until they need to go.

Every time I change the litter my 2 cats race for it like its the best new toy in the house. Their favorite part though seems to be who can kick out more litter on the floor than the other.

When you go to a public restroom, do you use the dirty stall or look for a cleaner one? I think they just like to go in a clean place.
