They aren't the moths, they are long thin black or dark brown. Not roaches, about the size of a grain of rice. My powder sugar and flour and rice are full of them, I had it in ziplocks in my pantry. I'm afraid I fed some of them to my family. Will they make us sick if we ate them in something not cooked? What are they? It looks like I will lose everything in my pantry.

They're weevils and while they're gross, they won't hurt you. Yes, if your sugar, flour and rice are "full" of them, they're probably in other things as well - cereal, cake mixes, really anything that is boxed or bagged. Clean out you're entire pantry using a bit of bleach with warm water and that should kill the maggots and eggs.

In spite of other answers, let me reiterate, they will not hurt you or make you sick! In fact, technically, they just add more protein to your food.

These bugs are called weevels. Throw out the bags of flour, sugar or whatever has these bugs in them. Buy new flour, sugar, etc. and keep them stored in the freezer. Weevel eggs are found naturally in these items. By keeping them stored in the freezer not the pantry they won't have a chance of hatching. Good luck.

To the best of my knowledge the worst case senario is you get a 24 hour stomach flu. I think you all should be fine and the meal may have tasted a little gross. They are just what you said, tiny bugs, it is very common to get them in flour or sugar that is kept too long without being used. If it was cooked then your chance of becoming ill obviously goes down. I am not sure what you would use raw flour in but like I said earlier, the worst that can happen as far as I know is a short stomach pain with possible vomitting, nausea, congestion, weakness, headaches, and fever. You should not be too concerned, but next time check it before you use it.

freeze all wheat products, sugar, flour also for 72 hours. They are actually called Granary weevills and they come in in the wheat from the field and get processed automatically. When a little moisture is added hence they are born and migrate to other things. I don't think they come in the sugar naurally like they do in wheat.

I'm not quite sure what will happen to your family, but ask your doctor about it. Those little things in your flour and sugar aren't roaches, but they're bugs. Best thing to do is to toss out everything that is contaminated with them.

I'm no expert, but I hope this helps.

I think they are mealy bugs... Not really sure. Throw out the flour and sugar. If you fed some to your family, It woun't really poison them.Best to see a doctor.

Keep your uncontaminated flour and sugar in your refrigerator . That will keep it less vulnerable for bugs to get in there.

Hi!!
Those little bugs are Weevils.
They won't hurt you, but you really don't want them in your food anyway.
Sounds like you might have to go through your pantry & see what products have been infested & then throw out the various products that have them in it.
I had the very same thing happen to me,so after I got rid of the products infested I bought these "perfect" storage containers and I no longer have had any recurrence of the infestion and since these containers are 'air-tight", I never will.

********CLICK BELOW FOR THE WEBSITE FOR THOSE CONTAINERS..."SUPER WAL-MART" ALSO SELLS THESE!!

I have found these in my castor sugar and after cleaning my cupboard found they had come in the small pack of semolina, I think semolina isn't as processed as floor so may be why they were there, gonna make sure all flour and sugar are kept in sealed containers so if they do get back in I don't lose so much money ditching everything. Hope this helps.
