It sounds like he has an upper respiratory infection (URI). URIs in cats are most commonly caused by herpes (a virus) and chlamydia (a bacteria)-don't worry, neither of these strains affect humans, so you won't get sick. The vet will probably give you clavamox, in case it is a bacterial infection. Clavamox is amoxicillin combined with clavunic acid-similar to what you take when you are a kid and have a respiratory problem. It is prescribed in a liquid form, and is pretty easy to give
(much easier than pilling a cat). I've even had foster kittens who lick the stuff up. The normal course iws 7-10 days.
If your cat has the virus (like my two cats), he will recover on his own (though your vet will give you the antibiotics anyway, since there is no good way to tell which one your cat has). He may have occasional upper respiratory signs for his whole life, like occaisional sneezing, or discharge from the eyes. Once a virus is present, there is no way to get rid of it.
As long as your kitten is happy and playful, just wait for your vet appointment (but try to get one in one-two days, these can get much worse). If he seems lethargic, won't eat or has an increased respiratory rate or effort, take him to the vet right away.
Good luck, and have fun with your new kitty!

If the discharge from nose or eyes is "colored" the kitten has a bacterial infection. Most usually it is clear indicating a viral infection though it is possible to have a combination of the two.

So definitely get the kitten to the vet (that's tomorrow or Saturday morning before they close for the weekend). Illness in kittens, like those in children, can develop to a serious point in a very short time.

I have to agree with BL. If you let this go, it will be life threatening to your kitten. Get her to a vet asap so that they can give you medication and tell you how to take care of her. If you have any other cats in the house, keep them away from the kitten as they can and will catch this illness.

Good luck!

It could be a cat version of kennel cough for dogs. Take her to the vet. My dog had that and after I took her to the vet and gave her medicine for a couple weeks she was fine. My kitten though, I asked God to take away her sickness and she hasn't sneezed or had runny for months. I'm serious she stopped mid-cough. If praying doesn't work take it to the vet, I'm sure the vet can help.
