Homemade Butter
Ingredients:
1 empty quart jar with tight-fitting lid
1 pint heavy whipping cream
Pinch of salt (optional)
Directions:
Pour cream into jar, leaving a space at the top to allow for shaking.
Shake jar until chunks of butter start to form, about 15 minutes you'll feel and hear the "clumps."
Pour chunks and liquid into a strainer positioned over a bowl.
Sprinkle butter chunks with salt if desired.
Candy molds can be filled with butter to create festive pats of butter for the tea party.
Put the filled molds into refrigerator, pop out when hard.

Buy cream and put in a glass jar leaving a good bit of room. Start to shake it back and forth from front to back. It will take a little while to make butter but it is fun to watch it turn. When you are finished spoon out the thick better and press it with a spoon to get out any liquid and add some salt to taste. Put into a container that you want it be shaped like and put into fridge to harden. My mother-in-law showed my children this long ago.

I've made my own, but it's hardly worth it from a cost perspective. Put heavy whipping cream in a mixer. Turn it on, med/hi speed. Fist it will turn to whipped cream. Then it will seperate. you will have solid butter, and liquid. Pour out the liquid and what you haqve left is homemeade butter. The only reason I did it is because I had extra cream and did not want to waste it. Considering the cost of heavy whiping cream, it's really cheaper to buy a pound of butter at WalMart for $2.50. You certainly wont get a pound of hommade butter out of $2.50 worth of heavy cream.

Take a plastic jar, put heavy cream AND A MARBLE inside. Shake. The marble will make the cream turn into butter MUCH faster than if there were no marble inside. Maybe 15 minutes of shaking.

you can make your own butter by starting with a clean quart jar with a lid, 2 cups of cream, and a wooden clothes pin for agitation. It does take a long time but it does work.

Take a jar of milk and shake it for a loooonnng time. Just give it to an active kid (say 4 years) who just ate a plate of cookies (some candy might help too).
Let them run around, it should take 45 minutes (a little more or less considering the amount)
It's not hard...but it does take effort.
Make sure you flavor the butter with salt.

This is a fun thing to do with kids.
Take a clean mason jar (or similar screw top container), pour in enough whipping cream, tightly screw top on and shake, shake, shake.
Works better and faster in cold weather. Just eyeball it to see when your butter is ready.

If you beat whipping cream long enough it turns to butter.
But why would you want to make your own? It will spoil at a much quicker rate than butter you buy.
