The Met is on Fifth Ave and there really isn't anything all that close as there aren't any restaurants on Fifth. I usually head uptown a bit to the 90's and go to Sarabeth's, which is a bit out of the way at 90th and Madison, but worth the walk or bus, good and not too expensive. There's also a restaurant on the corner, but it just changed names, a little french bistro.
I'm bad with names unfortunately, but closer is a cute Italian restaurant on 73rd btw Fifth and Madison on uptown side, next to jeweler Reinstin Ross, very good food, and not expensive. Not much in the 80's. There is one restaurant on 86th and Madison, again, can't remember the name, but also casual and not too expensive. None of these need reservations.
