It started this morning and seems to be getting worse as the day goes on.

Go to a doctor ASAP because your eye can get damaged within 24 hours.
In the meantime, I would suggest just putting in some redness-reducing eye drops.

If you have not received an injury to the eye then i would see a doctor. It could be an infection, either from bacteria, or fungus which needs treated, or it could be pink eye which is contagious. Typically swelling will accompany the redness with pink eye. For typical eye problems a temporary source of relief may be had by using a warm still wet, used teabag on the eyelid while you lie down. The tannic acid from the tea will sooth it.

Go to a sink and flush your eye with cold water. Afterwards, close your eye and do not touch or rub it.
The cold should reduce the swelling of the blood vessals in your eye and numb the irritation a bit. The water may wash away any foreign objects.
You can also try going to the pharmacy and get eyedrops.
Touching or rubbing just increases irritation and redness.
Of course, if it does not go away, see an optometrist to see if you have an eye infection.

erm... I suugest eye drops for dryness? or maybe you have the red eye. get it checked if eyedrops don't work

maby u have an eye infection
use eyedrops
i recomment REFRESH TEARS
i always use cus my eyes are very sencible haha

eye drops, if it continues to worsen see a doctor. (if its really itchy it's probably pink eye)
