neither side truly wants to debate. There are lessons in all major religions that are worth knowing but the religious people of those religions often cannot bring themselves to examine their religion from the point of view of a non believer and most atheists never want to examine atheism from the point of view of a believer thus the kind of debate you describe can never happen.

i crticize both usually its comes down to the fact that messengers from God are human , they are base and easy to attack an intellectual like richard dawkins could easily attack the text and the messenger , if the majority of atheist attack the messenger then it just indicates they have low intellectual capabilities, in all essence its no different to waht many christians do to my belief , being a Thelemite usually most people attack Crowley saying he was a satanist, a bisexual and a drug fiend , the funny thing is his message was beautiful and peaceful and i know most people haven't taken the time to read that message ... take what outsiders say with a grain of salt , ignore what the insiders say , its all a farce none of us know anything of the nature of god or his messenger accept it and go on your way

On what foundation do atheists presume the gospels to be untruthful of their portrayal of Jesus. - That they were written one hundred years after the reality from 10th hand biased rumour. to point to miracles recorded contained in the gospels as data antagonistic to their truthfulness begs the question. - anybody can "say" something, yet that data element is a situation. we've a good number of conflicting charges from eyewitnesses of the Titanics sinking. yet no man or woman doubts she sank. - And the shown reality that folk were all the way down to confirm that is incomprehensible to fundies.

Stick to the facts about the bible? Okay. The bible says that the earth and life were created about 6000 years ago, over a period of six days, in essentially their current form. They're older than that, the earth and life weren't created within six days of each other, and they weren't created in anything like their current forms.

My main criticism is precisely that the Hebrew Bible is much more understandable when you see it as just the mythology of the Hebrews. The God of the Old Testament is not believable as anything more than the flawed concept of fearful desert nomads.

There aren't a whole lot of facts to debate in the bible. I would say 99% of it is pure fiction. Christians are the ones believing this hogwash, they are the ones that need to be criticized.

"Why can't we stick to the facts about and in the Bible instead of criticizing Christians."
And you know they are facts?
If you know they are facts, then why cant Atheists see that? If you have proof they are facts, why wont you show us?

Either you are new here, or you aren't paying attention.
90% of all criticism is about the bible and has little to nothing to do with the "messenger".

I do.
I laud some of the things Jesus says, and deplore some parts. I think Paul is a bigoted moron, and the characters of the Old Testament are barbaric.
I rejected Christianity on its merits, it has nothing to do with its followers.
However, it should be noted that if one claims that this is the ONE BOOK from the ONE GOD that inspires TRUTH, you would think that the adherents of said truth would be better educated and better behaved about it.

Because the issue isn't the 'wholly babble' which is nothing more than an outdated book of bronze-age jewish mythology (one that is riddled with mistakes, lies and contradictions by the way) the issue is the people who say that it's the truth, when even a brain damaged 6 year old can see it's not.
