First give the puppy a powder on its food called FOR-BID. It makes the poop taste horrible (or maybe just worse) to discourage the dog from eating it. Also, try to be ready to pick it up as soon as he finishes going potty.

Do you know what I think ---- It would be best if your boyfriend GOT RID of him now and give him back to whoever bred this dog and let them start again. For a start you have him way too early. He should not have left his litter until 8 weeks old and we on here therefore know that this is a not only byb's dog who has had a mixed breeding but also has got shot of the litter to save her some money and from cleaning up all the poop and pees that a litter of pups do. He is far too young to expect to get housetrained in 5 days anyway, and if you can't cope with it then what are you going to do for the next approx. 4 months that he will still have accidents in the house. Then he shouldn't be out on a PROPER WALK at all. He is far too young to have got his vaccinations yet let alone cleared them all by 10 days. A puppy is close to 3 months by the time it is clear to go out. Then a young puppy of this age should not be on Proper walks anyway because of its joints. You will be talking 5 mins per day per month of life for walking plus free play indoors or out. If you have bought a puppy that is too young anyway, and are in a flat then you have to understand that it is going to take a while to get this. A puppy of this age cannot hold it, just like a human baby. You are expecting way too much. Look into crate training.

As it's not uncommon for the dogs to try and eat their poo,
especially puppies, the main cause is lack of nutrition. Maybe the food that you give them just isn't what or exactly like you need.
Try to change the brand to a healthier brand (look through local Vet. clinics, or pet stores and ask for their opinions.) Try that for a week so the puppies digestive tract is used to it, then see what happens.
You can try out the FOR-BID powder, or bitter apple spray but if dogs eat their own poop, what honestly makes you think they wouldn't eat anything else on it? =] lol
But like I said, usually it's from lack of nutrtion. That's usually why dogs tend to eat grass too.
If worse comes to worse check with your vet. and see what they have to say..other then that they should grow out of it, but some dogs don't. You can still train him through these processes too.

You have to remember that this isn't something that's gross to dogs. Most puppies, but not all, outgrow it. Keep on with what you're doing - the best you can do at this point is just not give him the opportunity. Putting things like tabasco or products you can buy don't seem to deter dogs - it's just a matter of training.

Tadpole is right, if your dog is eating its poop it is craving more nutrients, try a higher quality food such as Science Diet or Royal Canin, they will love it, and poop less. You can also feed lees amounts as it is a higher quality food than grocery store food.
However, if your dog likes cat poop, I think it just tastes good to them...ewww. all you can do is keep an eye out for that one.
And if it is old poop that she is eating, don't know where you are from, but dog's seem to like 'poopsicles' or frozen poop even if they don't usually eat poop.. crunchy maybe? haha
The only cure for that of course is to restrict availability. Scoop the poop, or tug her leash away from the poop and on to the next sniffing spot.
Good Luck!

My ten year old lad still does it. It's disgusting. The kids call it "Maddie's eating a Tootsie Roll again!" I think most dogs do it, sometimes cat poo as well. Not sure if you can stop it, just pick it up quickly.

You can try feeding him a teaspoon of Cottage Cheese several times a day, it's supposed to make the poo taste yucky.. (it worked for my dogs)
not that I can't imagine the poo tasting good in the first place!!
the article below recommends papaya enzyme..

He's probably so young that it doesn't taste bad to him. That's because his digestive system hasn't developed enough yet to give his feces a bad taste. You might try putting some hot salsa on it to make unpalletable to him.

i had the same problem with my dachshund. at first i thought that she was just hungry, and i wasn't feeding her enough. but the next day i fed her, and the second she pooped, she turned around and tried to eat it! so i asked my vet, and she said the same thing about the forbid stuff to put in her food. at the same time, she said that it doesn't work all the time.
by chance, i was telling my trainer about her nasty habit, and she told me to simply put a spoonful of canned pumpkin in her food, and that will solve the problem. the first time after i fed it to her, and she did her duty, she didn't eat her poop! ! if your dog is not liking the pumpkin in his food, then do what i did, and give him a nice spoonful of it directly in his mouth right before meal time. good luck!

The only real way to make him stop is to spray the feces with a bitter apple spray or if he eats it right away, purchase a product called Forbid from your veterinarian. The powder passes through the intestines and makes their feces taste terrible....as if it was delicious before. good luck with your problem, the official name is coprophagia
