if you know someone you have known for years was making a huge mistake but you tried talking to them about it and they say they have to figure it out for themselves how do you just not care about it anymore and to let them figure it out on their own

You'll find that if you really care about that person as a friend, you'll never be able to let them go like that. It really depends on the mistake they're making. If it's life-threatening, then get them help, no matter what they say. If they're not in danger, then just stay close and be there to help pick up the pieces. Be supportive, a good listener, basically just a good friend. It won't be easy by any means, but it's the best you can do.

if they dont want your input than its their loss, if they say somethin like they gotta figure it out for themselves let them. thats the best way to learn about life

if you can help them without creating more problems to them... then help them but if not the best way is to get out of the way and be there when they will need you most. . .
