I absolutely love both of these dogs. But i am in love with pit bulls. I would take a pit bull over any other dog breed. But i really think they are both great dogs. If you are looking into getting one, just do research on them both, and find out which one fits you best.
Hey King Tootin.... Pit bulls are for losers? Trailer trash, dog fighters, druggies?? Well how do you explain me and the rest of the people i work with. I work at a vet clinic, of all the dogs that walk in the door, we are happiest to see a pit bull because they are so easy to work with, and never have an aggression problem. I plan to get a pit bull, not because they make me look like a 'winner' but because i love the breed. And i am not 'trailor trash' i do not in any way condone fighting dogs. I do not do drugs or drink. While some people who own pit bulls do get them to help them feel more tough. Not ALL pit bull owners do, and most pit bull owners i have met are responsible dog owners who got the dog because they truly love the breed. They are very loving and loyal dogs. They make excellent pets when raised by a responsible owner.

I really prefer the mastiff over the bull mastiff for looks and personality. But pits are great dogs and not quite as large. The issue is, do you live in an area that may be affected by BSL? Sadly many great owners are facing serious problems if they own pits and have had to move or get rid of their dogs. At least the bull mastiff isn't on as many lists as the pits are so you may be less affected by the BSL's if you have a mastiff.

Well, if you want to get real upset why not consider the horrendous laws being proposed all over which single out most often the Pit but we all, in dogdom, have no doubt will be stretched to more than the Pit No doubt the two breeds you have mentioned will eventually both be under the attack of the Animal Rights movement which is trying to eliminate dog ownership completely starting with fear tactics easily applied to bully breeds. Petey, the Am Staff dual registered as a Pit was the dog in Spanky and Our Gang he had no trouble being made up with a circle around his eye by Max Factor himself, and playing with a bunch of kids for the series. Both breeds can be excellent companions, Mastiffs are much larger. Why Denver Colorado has confiscated and murdered over one thousand Pit Bulls, is something the entire country should be up in arms over. Hmmm If I were considering either breed I would go to Pet-Law.com and click on email list and read the archives, even make some posts. It is a Yahoo email group which can also be searched under Yahoo Groups right on yahoo. Do your research, and help defend our ability to keep the animals of our choice!

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PIT BULL HATERS. The only reason a dog will snap, is if it is raised badly. This is true of any dog. If you get a pit bull pup, and hand raise it on your own to be friendly obedient and kind, you will have NO problems with it. As for the person that said a pit bull bites harder? Well a bull mastiff is like a small pony. It could bowl you over quicker then a short, stout pit, so please heed my words !!!! Good Luck, either way ^_^
DRAGONFLY--- you hear less about them b/c there are fewer problems. HOWEVER this is because pitbulls are FAR more sensitive in raising, but if you treat them well, you'll have no problems!!! And because they are sensitive, you won't find a more affectionate pet ANYWHERE!!!!

I prefer Pit Bulls. I hate that they are sterotyped as vicious dogs. I think it's how you raise them. Don't get me wrong I still wouldn't trust any dog or cat around a child unsupervised, but I think they can be wonderful pets. I've only had experience with 2 bull mastiff's and both were unfavorable so I'm no help there.

I love pitbuills more b/c they are sleek and sexy (sorry, I know that sounds wrong). Pitbulls are actually a form of bull mastiff's. They where bred to be smaller and more agile. Mastiff's are nice if you want to make a statement, like "look at my dog, he's a 200lb. monster", but as far as playing with your dog and what not, I would go with a pit anyday.

I used to be a pit owner and I absolutely love them! But I also had to move and found it very difficult to find a place that would accept them :( That is just sad, because we all know it's because of the stereotype - small dogs bite more people! But I would suggest the mastiff, cause it was just too heart-breaking to separate from my old pit.

I like both of these breeds but I would have to say the bull mastiff. They are so cute, both as puppies and adults. They have the best temperment and are easily trained. Although I love pits some of them can be a little bit harder to train. (some of them, not all of them). Of the ones that I have encountered they are very strong minded and are a bit harder to become submissive to the owner. Bull mastiffs (the ones I have encountered anyway) have always wanted to please their owners and that makes them easily trained.
