Polydactyl cats weren't invented. This is a genetic mutation. Some people think they have this unique cat worth lots of money - they're wrong. Seen all the time by vets, just like lil bobtail kittens. They're all cute and all domestic!

They didn't invent these cats. It is a genetic anomoly (not abnormality). Many people actually raise "polydactyl" cats. Some people believe that thes cats were brought in from pirite ships. These were supposedly the best mouse catchers; some other places in Europe believe that they are a sign of withc craft. They are almost obsolete in Europe. They are great and it does not cause any health problems. The ones that look like they have thumbs are just soooooo prescious. I have one and he is great.

Well they didn't exactly "invent" them to have 6 fingers. It's called "double pawed." Large cats, like "Maine Coon Cats" generally have double paws, because they were originally outdoor cats, and this made it easier to catch things to eat.
Also note: sometimes it is a genetic defect, like a six fingered person. And also, a very big cat may have 6.

Inbreeding. One of the largest concentrations of 6 toed (polydactyl) cats is on Key West. At the Hemmingway house and museum. I got a chance to see the house and the cats on a diving vactation.
You can check out this web site, it gives quite a bit of information about the cats.

i don't believe it was invented.it's more likely a freak of nature thing, something went wrong with the genes.i think it is hereditary though.
