If your major is criminology then you will probably be required to do ride alongs. Just call the Human Resources department and they know exactly how to field the question. I know you have to be over the age of 18. No questions are stupid. Only ones that are not asked. Have Fun. I have been a cop for over 8 years and enjoyed when I had civilians riding along.

Most Staes won't allow this because of the liability factor, you actually need to be already enrolled in a Criminal Justice Program in College. Even then a "ride-along" as you describe it will be tough to approve. Go through the classes , get to an academy, then you ride as a trainee. In the meantime, speak with Criminal Justice Professors, see if your local Police Department will let you take a tour, and ask questions with those officers.

LOL! A tall tale...here is a long tale: Little Deer Isle, Maine A Lobstermen had been injured in an accident and was hospitalized. Several nurses each had the opportunity to give him a sponge bath and were commenting on his genitals. They all had noticed a tattoo of the word ''Little." So they drew straws to see who would find out what the whole tattoo said. Nurse Abby got the shortest straw and went into the guy's room while the others waited in the hall. Suddenly, they heard a commotion, then moans of passion and a piercing scream. Finally, Nurse Abby came out of the room with her skirt up around her waist, her panties around one ankle and a contented smile on her face. The others ask her what she found out. Abby: "It says 'Little Deer Isle, Maine, Big Dick Champion, 2009, 2010"

Call the nearest police station (or check the phone book) and get the Public Relations office. Tell them your major and ask them. Its a pretty common thing.
FYI - you can do the same thing at a jail...

All you have to do is call the Human Resources dept. of the nearest police dept. Explain to them that your major is criminal justice and you would like a police ridelong. They will refer your call to wherever it is appropriate. I believe you will have to sign a statement that states you hold the city harmless in case of injury to you.

You do exactly that. But make sure you go during the day time because the supervisors are the one's that have these applications. Don't know where you live but NYPD does them and cities like White Plains, Yonkers, and Mt. Vernon do them.
