OK I dont know if this exists or not but Ill do my best to describe it. Its a box like a vcr, dvd player, or tvio. And you can put a dvd inside it and it will download it into its system. For an example I put a Fresh Prince of Bel Air dvd into it and chose wich episode I want downloaded onto it. Then Ill put a Simpsons DVD and chose which episode I want, then I will put a movie, and so forth. And when Im done I can watch them in that order like its a tv station without changing any disks. I know my explanation my be week, but if it does exist nd you know please tell me. Thanks a bunch :D

Yes, its called a computer. There are a # of programs in which you can rip stuff out of DVD's and save them onto your hard drive. But you need a huge hard drive or a lot of patience trying to make big video files into smaller video files.

Other than that there probably will never be such a consumer product because copying DVD's are somewhat illegal

As suggested, just rip what you would like to watch to any computer. Many people, including myself, now just have a multimedia PC for these types of situations. It's pretty low cost, easy to maintain, easily upgradable (more memory, disk space, etc). Take a look around Google for countless software titles to help you manage your videos and playlists.
