My parents are 7 years apart. They met when my mom was 19 and dad was 26 and married when mom was 24 and dad was 31.
i'm 19 and dating a 29, almost 30 year old, and my parents went crazy. what's the big difference?? They keep saying "Ours is only 7 years, its okay that we did it."
they're acting like 10 years is a much bigger difference :( ?

#1, the color of yours and his skin matters NOT!!!!! #2, although I feel that 10 yrs, diff. shouldn't matter, at all, I do feel that 19 is a bit young to involved with a 30 yr old man. 30 and 40, no problem. At 19, you still have some "maturing" to do.

The race makes no difference. But I have to agree with your parents because there is a difference in their ages but your father is the older one and it has been proven that women mature earlier than men. So your lady friend is much to old for you not only in age but in maturity. And I can`t see anything working out in a marriage. If you go through with this marriage all I can see down the road for you is a wife dominating you and making your life miserable.

I would second what isis said.
I married a man 11 years older than me - I was 26 and he was 37 - and it wasn't bad. When people see him with our kids, they think he is the GRANDPA.
But that was 15 years ago, and quite frankly he is aging a whole lot faster than I am. He was much more set in his ways when we married, and that has caused ongoing problems. You need to carefully consider this relationship. Your parents love you and want the best for you, and if they are objecting, you need to heed this.

They need to understand you learned that it is ok because they are your role models. They are probably freaking because thats what parents do. Honestly, I don't see any difference with what your parents did and what you are doing. How can they be upset with you for something they showed you?

wow i don't get whats wrong with that either. they should be making a big deal out of it.
maybe to make them more comfortable you should keep it on the dl until your a little (only a little) older. I think they won't have to cling on to you as much then, and maybe they wont care.
either way good luck

well, i am older than you. i am dating someone 12 yrs older than me and we get along fine.
in your case might be different, you're 19 and a lot different ideas than a 30yrs old.
you might want to be careful

When you are 21 - it doesn't matter. Under 21 it does...I know it doesn't make sense....but that's my opinion.
