Has your friend taken the puppy to the vet? Has he gotten a diagnosis? Is the puppy getting proper treatment?

It is possible although not likely for a dog that has been vaccianted to get distemper or parvo...no vaccine is 100% for all dogs. Also vaccines won't always prevent but will greatly reduce the seriousness of a disease and the duration.Adult dogs aren't usually as suseptible to illness like distemper/parvo as puppies or senior dogs.
Unless the puppy has been diagnosed with distemper or parvo it can be other things as well ...parasites for one...change in food or water and other issues.

Although it's possible, I think that it's pretty unlikely that your vaccinated adult dog contracted parvo from the puppy.

You might want to get the dogs checked for Giardia -- in my neck of the woods, this is a very common dog ailment; both of my dogs have had bouts of G. It can make a dog *very* ill (depending on the severity of the episode) -- vomiting and diarrhea -- and it's easily passed from one dog to another. Giardia, however, is easily and quickly treated with antibiotics.

Even if the dogs test negative for Giardia, sometimes vets will treat for it (if no other obvious diagnosis can be made), because you can sometimes get false negatives w/ the test for Giardia. Certain strains of Giardia can also be passed to humans (this also is usually treated w/ antibiotics).

First of all Dennis congratulations for being kind and sensible to take on 2 young dogs. You must get them vaccinated as they need to have a lovely long life with you and I would hate the thought of them getting a deadly disease like Parvo Virus. All the best to you and your lovely dogs.

It is possible that it is a strain that they are not vaccinated for, but it is not very likely. More likely than not the puppy has a flu like virus that it gave to your dog. The puppy needs to see a vet, but you dog will probably be okay. If it doesn't clear up in the next day or two you will need to take your dog to the vet.

it is VERY possible for a dog to get parvo after it's been vaccinated. usually parvo affects young puppies and older dogs. our golden retriever got it when he was 5 months old and after 3 long days of IV's and whatnot at the vet; he's a healthy boy who will turn 8 tomorrow. :) please get both dogs to the vet ASAP....and try to keep them hydrated in the mean time. good luck! :)

yes, it is possible. vaccinations dont mean that the dog CANT get hte illness, it just prevents it. if ur dog is showing signs of illness, the best thing to do is call ur vet. give him/her water asap and make sure he/she is drinking. i wish there was something else me or anyone else here on yahoo answers could do to help, but a vet will be able to hep u the most. pls email me a progress report! i hope he is ok and i hope i could help out! =)

one more thing i think i should mention is that young pups are very siceptable to worms. even if they are wormed when they r young, they can still get them very easily, especially if the weather turns humid. it is possible the ur friends pup has worms and has passed it on to ur dog. take them to the vet in any case.

yes it is possible. The vaccinations are not 100%

If your dog is showing symptoms please get him in ASAP as Parvo can be deadly, and also for your roomate to get his dog checked. Parvo can survive a couple of years on homes,or in the ground. Sorry to hear this is happening to you. All the best.

A vaccination is not 100%. There is still a very small chance that your dog could get it. I would call your vet and ask.
Good luck. I hope it is just something minor.
