Almost all of the answers here are correct. Let me add a little side information. The origin of the word is "buey" (oxen), which is the way you are called in Mexico when you are stupid. The word then derived into güey (which sounds almost like "way", but with a harder first sound). That form is acceptable and you can also find it in some Mexican novels. When chatting became popular and young kids started abbreviating words for the sake of speedness, "güey" became "wey" and even "wy". You can get called "güey" by your friends and that would not be offensive.

maybe you should give an example... i take it your some sort of teacher dealing with english for foreign students... from what it sounds like i think that your topic is that you want to say some various words or some words in a form of a sentence to some students and have them write it down how they think each word should be spelt... am i correct... Maybe you could say like "orthographize these following words' Orthographize means to spell words correctly...... but im not 100% sure what your asking without an example.... hope this helps

i agree, it's güey, and it means "mule," used to address a friend. it's a slang word that you're probably only gonna hear Mexican men saying to each other so you probably shouldn't start calling everyone it right off the bat.
