From a womans standpoint who breastfed both of her babies, I would have to say, in public, yes it's a bit weird. But wrong? No way.
It's only weird because most ppl view it as a privacy issue. But don't let that detract you. If you are breastfeeding your baby and it is feeding time, the best thing to do is feed that child regardless of your surroundings or other people's opinions. You can breast feed in public with dignity and class. Just don't let it all hang out. :)

It is not wrong or weird to breastfeed in public.
I was a bit worried that I would have bad reactions when I'd breastfeed in public but thank God I never did.
I only ever recieved knowing warm smiles from women and positive attitudes. I even had people just walk up and remove the blanket so they could get a better look at baby. So I soon disscarded the blanket as their was no point to it.
I was actually in a restaurant once and feed my baby with a sarong over my shoulder and the manager came over and went off at me because he thought I was suffocating the baby. I explained that I was breastfeeding and he said it was fine, but to let the baby breathe.
My boyfriend and brothers had a problem with it at first. The whole thing about my breast being in public view. But after witnessing the beauty and peace of breastfeeding, they soon became comfortable with it.
They became my protectors from the perverts that would stare at the like 2cm of cleavage exposed above the babies head. Thier catch cry became " Havent you ever seen a a baby breastfed before?". They were very upset that men would defile the beauty and nature of breastfeeding with lewd looks.
There is nothing wrong with feeding a baby whenever and wherever it is. You see more of a breast in low cut barely there tops than watching someone breastfeed. Breastfeeding is a beutiful and natural thing.
The unnatural thing is thinking it is wrong and weird. Or in any way sexual. There is absolutely NOTHING sexual about breastfeeding. It is purely and simply a means to feed a baby with the extra bonus of having a unique and speacial bond with that child. You become more intune with your baby and its needs.

It is normal and not weird at all. Some women can pull it off but some butcher it and flop out all over the place! If your baby is hungry it needs to be fed. I am planning on breastfeeding but I will know where all the dressing rooms are in every store! Bathrooms are just nasty to feed in. Mature people can handle seeing someone breastfeed, and I am not saying, people that say it is wrong are not mature but it is something natural that over the years has become something that is "not so natural". I think if someone want to breastfeed in public they should use a wrap or something but it is legal and as long as it it legal people will do it!

Breastfeeding in public is NOT wrong, but it can be weird for many people. It is of course a natural thing, therefore people need to learn how to be accepting of it. It can be very uncomfortable for everyone involved when people don't understand the "etiquette" of it all. Men generally don't know if it is okay to look at a women while she is breastfeeding in fear of being accused of looking/staring at her breast. The mom who is breastfeeding may be uncomfortable because people around her are accusing her of doing something wrong, or they are staring. People need to get over it, if women are allowed to walk around with their breast hanging out of their shirts, or even topless, then where is the problem when a child is placed where they are meant to be.....Jealous much?

Unfortunately there are many people who are offended or disgusted by this natural act. I believe that more public establishments need to conform to the needs of mothers by setting aside areas for breastfeeding. For example, a small room in a restaurant, instead of having to go in to the bathroom, or outside in your car, or in the lobby and making sure you are covered.
I think if it is handled in a way that it does not offend people, it is perfectly normal. In other words, the mothers who do not cover themselves and blatently bare their breasts for the public to see, are the ones that most are bothered by.

I thought it was weird until I had to do it for the first time. I actually will leave the mall and go to my car and cover up with a blanket. I know that it is legal but I still can not do this in the mall as some do. I think that the answer is truely up to the mom. Those that are not a mother and have never brestfeed can not answer because they do not truely know what it does for the mother/child bond.

the funny thing is all the people out there who think it is wrong would also look at you strangely if you let your hungry baby scream for an hour in public because there was nowhere private to feed him/her. majority of these people do not have children of their own so are not qualified to answer such a question.
if feeding your baby at a particular time is required then it should be done with no thought whatsoever from anyone else. a breastfed baby looks so much more natural to me than bottle fed. I like to see more people out there doing what is right for them and there baby, don't worry about what other people think. it is your right and your babies right to breastfeed anytime anywhere.

No it is not wrong or weird. I am currently breastfeeding and I don't love having to breastfeed in front of anyone besides my husband, but life goes on and when my child is hungry i will feed him regardless of whether the queen of england is there. Breastfeeding is natural - more natural than you putting cow's milk on your cereal.

Its perfectly legal. Some people are uncomfortable with it. Personally, when I was out in public and our daughter got hungry, I just went to the car.
