Sound knowledge of basic engineering trades processes?

This is a question of a job interview i had.
Could anyone tell me what does it really mean by trades processes.
its great If someone from engineering background can tell what would be your answer for this.

The interviewer may have been refering to basic engineering skills such as mass balences, energy balences, etc. Knowing the job / position you were interviewing for may shed more light on the phrases meaning.
