He must be for him to know so much. Otherwise, he has no life. He wrote a work of fiction. It was never intended to actually be taken seriously.

Yes he is...the special features of the movie by Ron Howard, Dan Brown mention it.
But the smartest? I don't know.
He did a lot of research for his book...Ron Howard on the movie did too.
Even the actors and actresses thought the story line was accurate...
I would give the book and movie a 68% truth, 32% fiction.
