We live in Mexcio. I home school my children and have my own school with other children. My ex is trying to undermind my abilities to teach our children. I welcome any public school evalution. Originally, the plan was to test the children through Texas Tech, but the ex has decided that is too expensive. Any advice?

If you have a bachelor's degree in ANYTHING then you can go to bjup.com and click on testing - you have to be an approved tester with them, and you do this by filling out the form and sending it in with a copy of your bachelor's degree. Anyway, by doing this you can give your kids the Iowa Test at home, which is an approved test given in many places. It is about $35-$40 per child. Or, bjup also has the Stanford test, which has to be administered by a teacher. You could pay someone to give this test to your child. Some public schools will allow your child to sit in on the testing when they are actually giving it to their students.

Please do not use the TASS or TAKS test. I live in Texas and have kids in the school system here. We went from homeschooling into public and the test is so idiotic that the kids were thrown for a loop. My son passed as did my daughter (my daughter even skipped a grade) but they both said it made no sense to them.
Since they have been in school for 2 years now, I've dealt with the test for as long. It's a stupid test that is ruining our schools.
I still homeschool two more children.
Our church issues the Iowa test yearly.
I hear that it is the best out there and that it is solely based on the 3 R's rather than "new math" and the like.
I don't have a website for the Iowa test, but if you need it I can probably get it from our tester.

Try the CAT Test (the California achievment test) its used by a number of private and homeschools. I was homeschooled myself and took my CAT5 a year before I graduated. It doesn't cost very much and is actually considered to be harder than most public school standardized tests by some educators. Its a good exam to test all-around proficiency. I was homeschooled in Delaware and the CAT was actually at the top of the list for alternatives to the state standardized.

Check into the CAT exam. There are several generally accepted standardized tests that can be administered. If you don't need anything that formal, check out kidtest.com. It isn't expensive to test--not more than $30/kid, I don' think, and kidtest.com is less.

If your husband is wanting a proctored test (administered by someone other than you), it will cost because you pay for both the proctor and the test itself.

If he just wants to see how they stack up against other kids, the State of Texas releases their old assessment tests (TAKS, TAAS, etc.) each year and you could just print it out and give it to them for free.

Best wishes on this.
