What a great question...Many people do not even understand that this story is prophesy..God tells Abraham to take his only son.( Many question the only son he was the opnly son as Ishmael was sent away )and make a sacrifice of him. The prophesy if of Jesus...As Abraham walks with his son to the place he was to be sacrificed Issac is carrying the wood and says to his father..we have fire and wood but where is the lamb for the sacrifice and Abraham tells his son the lord will provide himself a lamb...When Abraham is just about to sacrifice Issac the lord tells him to stop and that there is a ram caught up in the briers and to sacrifice this in Issac's place...Abraham makes the sacrifice and names the place Jehovah Jirah which means the lord will provide because he said in this place the lord will provide himself a lamb......Thousands of years later God provided His only Son the Messiah and he was called the lamb of God..and he carried the wood to the place he was to be a sacrifice and he was sacridiced in the place of us all...God did provide a lamb to atone for us all. It is a prophesy of the Savior which was to come.

TOTALLY.....

God made a blood covenant with Abraham - gen. 15 - and made
promises to him, including a promised son, who would be Isaac.

In Genesis 22, when God told Abraham and go to Mt. Moriah, which is the present day Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and sacrifice his beloved and only son, Abraham KNEW that even if he DID have to go ALL the way and actually sacrifice his son, that
God would still raise Isaac from the dead because of his blood covenant, and the promises that were made that he would be a
father of nations, which is what Abraham means....

And for us... Because Abraham was WILLING and OBEDIENT to
offer HIS only son, God obligated Himself to give HIS only Son for
our salvation, which He did....

On the way up to Mt. Moriah, which is where God's temple would someday be - and will be - Isaac asked his father where they would get a lamb for the sacrifice and Abraham uttered one of the
most important prophesies of the "old testament" when he said
that GOD would provide the LAMB for the burnt offering...

And that Lamb is Jesus, our Passover, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world....

I just learned like a couple of years ago from someone else that
after the Angel of the Lord told Abraham NOT to kill his son, there
was a RAM caught in a bush by its horns and it is in that very spot
that Jesus would someday die for us on the cross as the LAMB that God provided for the burnt offering....

"For God so LOVED the world that He GAVE His only begotten Son that WHOSOEVER believes on Him should NOT perish, but have everlasting life." -- John 3:16 --

This part of the Bible about Abraham -- and Exodus - are my personal favourite parts in the o.t.

and by the way, "testament" should really be COVENANT.

In Galatians, ch,3, it says, if we be Christ's, we be Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.

When God told Abraham that his descendants would be as the
sands of the earth - that meant physical Israel, starting with his son Isaac, and the stars of the sky, which referred to his spirit-
ual seed, which would be the BLOOD-BOUGHT CHURCH of the Lord Jesus Christ.

JESUS CHRIST -- means Y'SHUA THE ANNOINTED ONE.
"CHRIST" AND "MESSIAH" mean the same thing and YESHUA means SALVATION and would be JOSHUA in English, just as the name John or Paul or Peter have different translations in
French or spanish, et al, -- for anyone interested....but religion has made TRADITION around some of these words and it has
caused alot of problems, especially between Israel and the church, along with other events that have turned the Jewish people away from accepting their Messiah, apart from the blind-ness that God said would come over the nation as a whole for
rejecting their Messiah at His first coming.

It is the story that says Abraham believed in the God that revealed Himself to Abraham. Abraham made the choice to act on what he believed transforming his belief into faith. Abraham was obedient to the God he believed in. Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness.

Do you believe the God that you claim to believe in the way Abraham did? Better yet do you trust the God that you claim to believe in?

God's way is not mans way. If we will trust God in ALL things and be obedient to His will, His way we will not only experience life more fully than we can ever imagine we will also become a beloved child of God. In today's society where values and morals are disappearing this story speaks volumes about trust, honor and obedience as well as pursuing a purpose in life that exceeds your own lifetime to accomplish and has nothing to do with the fulfillment of personal pleasure.

How much do you trust God?? Do you love and trust Him enough to sacrifice the thing most precious to you?? Is there anything in your life that you value more than God? Are you willing to give it all if He asks? That's the ultimate destination in the Christian walk. We fight every day with trusting God and realizing that He loves us and has our best interests in mind. Abraham trusted God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Righteousness is what we are called to, it's our salvation in a sense.

It shows that God tests us. Because He doesn't want
people who will "punk out" when the going gets rough!
