In that highly unlikely event of one NATO and EU member invading another... Yes. The UK would have no choice but to protect it's citizens on what is UK sovereign territory (Spain signed it over in a treaty). And ultimately the UK could defend the territory with superior air and sea power.

Could the UK defend Gibraltar ?
We keep hearing about our forces being under-funded and under-equipped so I'm not at all sure that we could.
Can't see it happening, though.
Actually, there's a daily Spanish invasion anyway. Lots of people commute from the Spanish mainland to work on Gibraltar.

They most likely still could, but it is still to be settled with how much Military equipment Scotland has, how and if they would still work as part of the British Armed Forces etc. I think even if Scotland was to get full independence it is still going to be thought of as part of Britain for decades to some in some countries If it becomes like other another Commonwealth countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand they seem to say where Britain goes, we go, and many of the other Commonwealth countries do as well. We all just have to see what will happen, I am sure there are a lot of Scots who will want to know about their Military future also Chetak

I doubt very much if Spain would invade Gibraltar because they, as well as us, are ruled by Brussels. For that reason I don't think it would make a great deal of difference to the Gibraltarians.
Due to the fact that Gibraltar no longer has the military significance that it once did I can't see this Government doing much about it anyway. They've already given away so much and conceded so much to Brussels.

Yes we would only because this government, as weak as it is, would have no option due to public opinion. However, Spain would never invade. 1. Because the rest of Europe would be against them. 2. It would cost them a great deal of money plus they would loose a great deal of money from lost tourism. 3. They would be beaten very quickly and suffer another humiliating defeat at the hands of the British army as they have done so often in the past.

One EU member state invading another.... I think it would be defended in the European Court, without military action!

Why don't you ask Argentina what happened with the Falklands? And that was in another hemisphere; Spain would have everything to lose & nothing to gain by such an action.

No. But it would probably call all those ex-pat Pensioners back home. That would give the Spaniards a kick in the pocket!

Off your medicine again? What a totally absurd notion. What dusty dark archive did you dig this out of?

No. We would run off with our tails between our legs like we did over Hong Kong. We only take on very poor countries like Argentina.
