Yeah I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God (i'm Catholic). The Old Testament came from the Jews, but the New Testament was put together after Jesus left earth. Since there were alot of other 'religious' books running around, how do you know for sure that all the books in the New Testament are the word of God? On who's authority do you accept the books in the BIble? I know but i'm just wondering if you all do.

Of course you have to believe with faith, but who put the Bible together?? It didn't fall from Heaven pre-assembled, so who decided that certain books were inspired, and certain ones weren't? Because someone did it. Who?

Two Popes and two Councils of the Catholic Church determined the Canon of the Bible. Popes Damasus (in 382) and Innocent I (in 405), and the Councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397) all approved the books that we have in the Bible today. Before then there was no official list, especially concerning the New Testament. But the list was determined by the authority of the Catholic Church.
So if you accept that the books in the Bible are the only inspired ones, you are accepting that on the authority of the Catholic Church.

zachary b, i asked this question because so many Christians damn the Cahtolic Church, but accept a Bible that was approved by that Church. A problem somewhere with that... And of course the OT and the NT are in line, because they are the inspired word of God. But there was alot of debate over the books- some people thought that Hebrews, Jude and 2 Peter were not inspired. If the inspired books were so obvious, why was there so much debate, and why was an official declaration by the Church needed? And what are the exact proofs that show it was inspired by God?

kait, everything you said is correct, but it's missing the point. It doesn't matter than archaeological findings prove the accuracy of the Bible, today. The question is, who determined what was inspired, back then. And yes the writers were inspired, and faultless. But that doesn't mean that was obvious to everyone. With other books running around, someone had to make a command decision and set the final Canon. The Catholic Church did this, errorlessly, guided by the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God (literally "God-breathed"), and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..." So the old and new testaments together are a cohesive unit. Also many prophecies of the old testament are recorded as fulfilled in the new testament. Jesus said his blood was the sign of the new covenant and spoke of the things that his believers would do after he left. The new testament is a record of those things with the book of Revelation being the final book of prophecy. So I accept the books of both old and new testament on the authority of God the Father who inspired the writers to write as God the Holy Spirit guided them and they testified to the truth about Jesus, God the Son. Catholicism says that the church and a mere human, the Pope, are the final authority. I choose God himself as my authority.

First if you believe that the bible is Gods word then why ask this question? If you study the bible you will realized that the old and new testament fall right in line with each other. The bible in its entirety is in perfect harmony.Nothing contradicts.Furthermore the new testament was not decided by one person, scholars of language and other fields canonnized the new testament using criteria that had to be proven to be the inspired word of god.

The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and no believing scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverter a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive studies, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."
There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.
God inspired the Bible through forty writers.
Inspiration doesn't mean the biblical writer just felt enthusiastic, like the composer of "The Star-Spangled Banner." Nor does it mean the writings are necessarily inspiring to read, like an uplifting poem. The biblical Greek worked for inspiration literally means "God-breathed." Because God breathes out Scripture - because it originates from Him - it is true and inerrant.
Biblical inspiration may be defined as God's superintending of the human authors so that, using their own individual personalities - and even their writing styles - they composed and recorded without error His revelation to humankind in the words of the original autographs. In other words, the original documents of the their own personalities and literary talents, wrote under the control and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the result being a perfect and errorless recording of the exact message God desired to give to man.
Hence, the writers of Scripture were not mere writing machines. God did not use them like keys on a typewriter to mechanically reproduce His message. Nor did He dictate the words, page by page. The biblical evidence makes it clear that each writer had a style of his own. (Isaiah had a powerful literary style; Jeremiah had a mournful tone; Luke's style had medical overtones; and John was very simple in his approach.) The Holy Spirit infallibly worked through each of these writers, through their individual styles, to in errantly communicate His message to humankind.

there's no e book like the Bible. It has had, and nonetheless has greater earnest acquaintances and greater bitter enemies than the different. Mutitudes have submitted to martyrdom fairly than abjure its teachings, and function been cheered by skill of its provides you while earth has receded from their view. on the different hand, better efforts have been made to wreck the Bible than have been ever positioned forth for destruction of the different e book. technology and philosophy have been invoked to discredit it. Astronomy in the disclosure of its heavenly wonders has been asked for some actuality to disparage it, and geology in its researches in earth has been importuned to throw suspicion on it. some do no longer hesitate to assign to it a human orgin. it is the placement of Deists, who, as their designation denotes, have self belief in the existence of God. they have self belief additionally in his understanding and goodness, yet they think that the quantity of Nature and teachings of reason are adequate, without this type of revelation as Christians evaluate the Bible to be. that's an exceptionally weak spot in Deism, for the gadget no longer only provides you that God is sturdy to adult adult males, yet glories in it. if it is the case, then that's rather lifelike to anticipate from him a supernatural revelation of his will. that's scarcelynecessary to make a distinction between Deists and Rationalists. The latter are so excessively addicted to the inculcations of reason, and connect lots importance thereto, that the reject the classes of the Bible except its doctrines accord with their Rationalistic perspectives. I guard that the Bible is a superhuman production, it is the e book of God, correct so referred to as, via fact it includes a revelation from him. you may ok argue it is does no longer prepare the revelation has been given. having mentioned that, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it creates an ever lots possibility in want of a revelation. ultimately, The Bible is the be attentive to God. that's a revelation of him, no longer a technology, poem or a philosophy.

The fact alone that Jesus fulfilled about 150 prophecies 800-150 years before his birth from the OT is pretty incredible.
The Jews were anticipating it.
I can't prove it to you... But I know.
How?
Well, whenever I honestly and faithfully do what the Word says and seek God first, the promises in the Word are fulfilled (even if it's not when I expected it)
My proof is through expierience with God, which is something non-believers just don't have.

Roman Catholicism is #1 in the major branch of Christianity
Christianity began in the 1st century AD as a Jewish sect, and shares many religious texts with Judaism, specifically the Hebrew Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament (see Judeo-Christian).
There is a diversity of doctrines and practices among groups calling themselves Christian. These groups are sometimes classified under denominations, though for theological reasons many groups reject this classification system.Christianity may be broadly represented as being divided into three main groupings:
1) Roman Catholicism: The Roman Catholic Church, the largest single body, includes the Latin Rite and totals more than 1 billion baptized members.
2) Eastern Christianity: Eastern Orthodox Churches, Oriental Orthodox Churches, the 100,000 member Assyrian Church of the East, and others with a combined membership of more than 300 million baptized members.
3) Protestantism: Groups such as Anglicans, Lutherans, Reformed/Presbyterians, Congregational/United Church of Christ, Evangelical, Charismatic, Baptists, Methodists, Nazarenes, Anabaptists, Seventh-day Adventists and Pentecostals. The oldest of these separated from the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th century Protestant Reformation, followed in many cases by further divisions.
Estimates of the total number of
Protestants are very uncertain, partly because of the difficulty in determining which denominations should be placed in this category, but it seems to be unquestionable that Protestantism is the second major branch of Christianity (after Roman Catholicism) in number of followers.
Wikipedia:
Some Protestants identify themselves simply as Christian, or born-again Christian; they typically distance themselves from the confessionalism of other Protestant communities[11] by calling themselves "non-denominational" — often founded by individual pastors, they have little affiliation with historic denominations. Others, particularly some Anglicans, eschew the term Protestant and thus insist on being thought of as Catholic, adopting the name "Anglo-Catholic."[12] Finally, various small communities, such as the Old Catholic and Independent Catholic Churches, are similar in name to the Roman Catholic Church, but are not in communion with the See of Rome. The Roman Catholic Church was simply called the "Catholic Church" until other groups started considering themselves "Catholic." The term "Roman Catholic" was made to distinguish the Roman Catholics from other groups.[13][14]
Restorationists, are historically connected to the Protestant Reformation,[15] do not usually describe themselves as "reforming" a Christian Church continuously existing from the time of Jesus, but as restoring the Church that they believe was lost at some point. Restorationists include Churches of Christ with 2.6 million members, Disciples of Christ with 800,000 members,[16] The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with 12 million members,[3] and Jehovah’s Witnesses with 6.6 million members.[17] Though Restorationists have some basic similarities, their doctrine and practices vary significantly.

Well if you know, why don't you share it with us? If you have the answer why are you looking for us to provide you with the wrong answer? Jesus and the apostles educated both believers and non-believers with the word of God. They didn't ask questions but instead provided answers. Why aren't you providing answers? If you are truly a Christian then you should be sharing your knowledge rather than making asking unsincere of questions about the bible. This is the Caveman signing out and swinging his club for all God's people. Ooooh Yeahh!!!!!
