It shows us the importance of having a right heart when we present ourselves to God. Abel had a pure heart and He gave his offering in the proper attitude. Cain brought his more out of "have to" and therefore his offering was not acceptable. When we present ourselves to God, He looks at our hearts to see if we're there because we love Him, or if we just think it's what we're supposed to do. Cain's bad heart was revealed in his murderous response to his rebuke.

It shows that God judges the Heart. It's not because Abel offered an animal instead of grain that displeased God. It was because
Cain did it half-heartedly, and Abel with his whole Heart!

it shows me what happens when you do not do your best, and envy, and MURDER and basically sin... It messes us up and our relationship with God, our parents, and to our "Abel" (the one we have committed sin against).
That is something to keep me in line... I don't want to be Cain. I want to be a "David" the one after God's own heart...

It's only relevant if someone caught it on their cell and posted it to YouTube.
Other than that it's just another fable with less relevance than most of Aesop's. After all, how many people have you killed recently?

That God has requested us to worship Him a certain way. That anger can lead to murder. Every true story in the Bible is letting us know what can happen, and that we can be forgiven.

It shows that jealousy is wrong, and can lead to killing someone- in some instances- that is why it is wrong to be envious of others.
