This isn't my 1st tat but it's my 12th!!! So don't treat me as a newbie here & want serious answers/help. I haven't done anything different than any of the others either. But I got my newest tat on Jan 13th towards my shin & I'd say a day or 2 after the initial itching period subsided it started itching like mad while I was reading a book. When I looked down at it thinking maybe it's dry I see that it has a rash all the way around it spanning about an inch away from it including on it. It doesn't burn or have heat coming from it so I know it's not infected.

Since I'm too busy at work to go into the doctor till the end of next week I decided to try putting Desitin (diaper rash ointment) on it which has seemed to work for the most part but has anybody ever had this happen? I'm open to suggestions but not jerky comments from opnionated people who are against tats.

The only thing different is with this tat it has the color brown in it & my others haven't. Yeah I did call her & ask about if she's had this problem before & that's who told me to try the desitin. I know she used a new needle (I saw her open it).

i have seen and dealt with this my self numerous times. just like some people are allergic to latex others are allergic to a certain tomato organic based pigment in some maroons, blood reds, and browns. it can be considered an infection since it is a form of cellulitis. i would see a doc just in case cause these types of infections can cause necrotic tissue where pieces of flesh start peeling off and can lead to infection of the blood stream which can cause sudden heart failure. they normally prescribe some antibiotics for about 20 bucks. if any swelling occurs you may need a touch up for the spots that stretched to the point of ripping.

Yikes, definitely go to the doctor as soon as you have the chance. That little rash could be attributed to any number of things, like a poorly sterilized needle, allergic reaction to the kind of ink they used, the transfer ink, the powder from the latex gloves the artist used. Or since getting a tat makes the skin vulnerable, something might have irritated your skin while it's trying to heal, like soap, lotion, clothing detergent. Hope it gets better soon.

It sounds like you are allergic to one of the colors in your tattoo. Keep an eye on it or call the place where you got it and ask them if that is normal:>)

try a&d ointment. my tat was way itchy too! and the ointment helped alot. just rub it on when it starts to itch, until it completely absorbs into your skin. hope all is well, cheers!

This happened to a friend of mine, she was told it was just the healing process.... It did settle after a period of time. I suggest keep doing what are already doing and in no time you'll be back to normal...

keep putting Desitin on it and maybe try baby lotion (not off brand!)
