If you are in pain go to an emergency room at the hosp. Insurance or not they cannot (by law) deny you help. If you have what is called a community hosp. it is set up for person's with no insurance. The phone book should have government aid for people in you situation that may can help. Lot's of churches have assistant for people also. You can also go to the great healer...God...he always has the answer. Bless you and may you find help.

If you do have to get medical care and have to negotiate the bill, negotiate well!! I have insurance, and when I had a $14,000 surgery, the insurance only paid like $9000, so you can see that what a hospital or clinic charges you is way more than what an insurance company would pay for the same care. Medicare pays even less. So you should really be able to cut that bill back. I negotiated over 1/2 off a psychiatric hospitalization bill (back in the days when mental health care wasn't covered at all by insurance) and then spread out the payments over three months. You can also do things like trade in a nice car for a cheaper one, eliminate cable/satellite TV, cancel the cell phone, etc. etc and maybe free up quite a lot of cash to pay the bill, if you're not really poor already. I hear a lot of people panicking how they will pay for something, and they won't even consider selling things off or getting rid of the cell phone. If you had insurance, you would be paying over $400 a month for it, so having a $2000 medical problem isn't that big a deal compared to the huge monthly cost of insurance (which if a person can possibly afford it, they should). If you are in fact, very low income, you may be able to get medical insurance from your state at a reduced cost, under the medicaid program, or a state program if they are more generous than the feds. Another thing, if you do have to get treatment, ask if this or that test is really necessary. Ask if there are any things you can do yourself to make the condition better without drugs/surgery. If you know what this condition is that you have, do internet research on things you can do for yourself, too. I don't know what a SAMH is, so I can't help you if that was important info.
Good luck!

Maybe you can try going to a hospital emergency room--if you tell a doctor what's wrong with you, they might give you free treament at least once. You'll probably have to wait a long time; depending on who else is there waiting to be treated. Maybe you can try calling Social Services, maybe you can get Medicaid (it's medical insurance for people who don't have much money). I'm not sure how services work in your state, if you call a hospital they might be able to tell you how to apply for Medicaid.

Find a clinic or hospital that is not for profit. They are required by law to treat you, even if you don't have insurance. These facilities usually have a "charity" policy, where you can set up manageable payments over a period of time. A lot of the time, the hospital will also reduce your bill, based on your income level.

At most hospitals, if seen in the emergency room just be honest and tell them you have no insurance, they still have to help then contact the billing department because sometimes they can write it off especially at a catholic hospital. You may have to fill out paperwork, or offer to pay what you can they cant refuse you medical treatment.

Public hospital or a free clinic. Some doctors even help with bills by charging on a sliding scale (pay what you can afford)
