In my Pins they are most receptive at 9 to 13 days. This is when they will generally peak. The heat can go on for up to 21 days. Depending on the breed maturity, after the 3 heat or season is a female generally ready. This is usually anywhere from 18 to 24 months. I always wait til at least 2 years of age.

They are in heat for about 3 weeks, and they usually can start being bred on the 10th day after the bleeding started. The female needs to be at least 2 years before it is safe to breed her.

a female dog is in heat for 20 days the first 10 don't count. will not mate by choice. It is best to breed every other day for 3 days. during the last 10 days. The female will let the male know when she is ready. If she snaps at him she is not ready.

I have heard they are ready to breed after they have come into their second heat cycle, usually when they are around a year old.

A dog can be in heat for roughly 3 weeks. If you don't know the answer to this, then she is NEVER ready to be bred by you. Please read the AKC guidelines on being a responsible breeder and your breed club's code of ethics. If you ignore them, then you are a backyard breeder adding to the millions of dogs killed each year in shelters - and that's immoral.
