Sure this sounds like a simple question, but it is directed to those of us who are single and eat dinner alone.

Many families say the blessing, but does anyone say it when they are alone? If you say a blessing, do you say it out loud or just in your head?

I didn't say a blessing because I don't believe in a telepathic God, but that's just me. I'm still interested in what others are doing!

I don't believe in a telepathic god either. It's the farmers that christians should thank for their dinner.

Yes, I try to always remember to say the blessing, whether or not I'm alone or not. If I'm with the family I say it aloud so everybody can hear it. If I'm alone I usually pray silently because God is telepathic and understands what I say whether it's aloud or not.
Satan however, cannot read your thoughts and therefore relies on you to say the prayer aloud. I don't like the thought of Satan knowing what I'm saying to God and that's the reason I pray in silence.

A person doesn't need a God to "say" a blessing because one who "says" a blessing would be prounouncing the blessing for themselves and unto themselves.

However, there are those who "ask" for a blessing on their food, lives etc...

I too am alone so, I talk to the Lord always. Many times I speak aloud, can't hurt anything....unless someone is onlooking and think you're talking to yourself & think you're nuts.

I simply say, "thank you for the food Lord" people have come up with those long prayers, nothing wrong with them, but I think they're for the benefit of the other people at the table.

When I am alone I close my eyes and pray over my food in my head- when I am with my kids or husband or family we bow our heads and pray out loud- usually I pray, but sometimes my kids want to say the blessing, and its so cool that they want to!

I say my blessing out loud.

God, thank you for the food I am about to receive. Bless it with nourishment for my body. I thank you Lord, for providing, because only YOU can. Amen

My daughter learned one in preschool... it says:

Hands in our laps sitting up tall, there shall be no sound at all.
Before we eat, we all must say, Thank You for our food today... Amen...you may eat. (I thought that was cute)

it doesn't matter if your with your family to say the blessing well my stepmothers family says it even if they are eating alone so i don't think it matters but if i were living alone i would say it out loud, it would make me feel like i wasn't by myself.

I never offer thanks because I am just plain old lucky that I actually have food to eat,not blessed by God.

Come Lord Jesus be our guest let these gifts to us be blessed.I thank thee father for hidding these things from the wise and revealing them unto the babes such as my self for such was thy good will.
