I have a sun on the back of my neck, yep it hurt but it was well worth it. Logically, tattoos are going to hurt anywhere, but its up to you whether you want to experience the pleasure/pain. I now have 7 tattoos, with plans on starting my back piece later in the year!!

In choosing a place for a tattoo, remember this little bit of advice: the closer to the bone you are, the more it will hurt. So a tattoo on your calf would hurt much less than one on say your skull. I got one across the lower part of my back and the most painful part was near the spine. Also, make sure you go to a reputable place that uses only sterilized equipment that you see them opening for you. Infections can occur and you definitely don't want one near your spine. My other tattoo is on the fleshy part of the back of my shoulder and that wasn't exactly comfortable, but it didn't hurt near as much as the spine one. The pain recedes fairly quickly when the tattoo is done, but it will be pretty sore for a few days and you certainly will not want the person applying your salve(usually neosporin a couple times a day) to be poking at it so choose someone sympathetic to you (my mom jabbed the hell out of my second tattoo cause she was upset I got it). It will also scab up within a day or two. DO NOT PICK IT!!! this will ruin your tattoo. It will also itch a bit when the scabs are getting ready to come off. DO NOT PICK IT!!! lol Good Luck

yes, it will definitely hurt. if you have other tattoos, then i think you'll be fine. but, it may be a little too shocking if it's your first. the size will have a lot to do with it. if it's going to take some time, realize that you will be in a very uncomfortable position, and not only will your skin hurt from the tattoo, but your muscles will start to ache from holding your head down. i would suggest taking a small pillow or a sweatshirt to rest your chin on.

My sister-in-law got a tattoo on her neck, it's about 3 inches by 2 inches, she also has one on her toe, one on her side, one on her lower back, and one on her shin, she says that the neck was actually her second least painful tattoo. Hope this helps!

~Good Luck!

Getting a tattoo anywhere hurts... it involves hundreds or thousands of needle pricks injecting ink under the skin.

There are ways to numb the region somewhat (like ice) - but pretty much it'll hurt during, and will hurt for a while afterwards...

Getting a tattoo is gonna hurt anywhere. I don't think I would ever get one on the back of my neck though. It creeps me out cause they could damage a nerve or something. Plus, when you're an old lady with barely any hair, you're gonna have a wrinkly blob of ink there. EWWWWWW

Mine hurt, but the tattoos I got on my calf/knee and the one on my foot hurt waaaaay worse.

You have to remember that all tattoos hurt, but how bad they hurt will vary based on your pain tolerance
