As I've explained numerous times on this forum Mormons no longer practice polygamy and have not done so since October 1890. Those practicing plural marriage are not Mormons, but splinter groups that the media and attention-seeking journalists love to label as Mormons. Remember, polygamy is illegal in the U.S.

Should any Mormon be convicted of plural marriage, that Mormon is immediately excommunicated by the Church. The rest is left up to the federal and state laws for enforcement.

Mormons, or those active and strong in their faith, do not drink, use tobacco in any form, or imbibe in coffee and tea. That commandment, which was given of the Lord, is called the Word of Wisdom and found in Section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants.

The commandment also specifies what is good for the body--not just what is bad.

Added note: I know what I'm talking about and my explanation is the truth; therefore, the thumbs-downer is an idiot. You've rated it a negative solely because you withstand reading the truth when it faces you.

1st of all: I am tired of all the $%#^ about the several wifes, it isn't true, they marry with only one woman, it isn't allowed to marry several woman. They believe that drinking coffee and tea (the ones you buy at the supermarket and put on a cup of hot water) is not right for you, I don't know why but I respect it anyways. They believe that a phrophet named Joseph Smith wrote The Book of Mormon a hundred and something years ago and that he talked to God and Jesus in a descert place in New York while he was praying askng God which is the true religion and God and Jesus told him to create a new church which had to have Jesus's name on it because the church was to follow Jesus, that's why the church is named The Church of Jesus Christ of the Later Days Saints. And then an angel named Moron appeared to him while he was sleeping and told him where the Book of Mormon was so he could translate it with the help of two rocks. They believe that you already exist befor being born and you live with God and then you are sent to the world so you can have a body and after you die you go to the world of the spirits where you are with other spirits and you receive Jesus's guidance while you're there waiting for the final judgement. After that there are three worlds in which we will live after the final gudgement, they are represented by the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. The sun is where all very good individual will be, they'll be with God and you can progress the most you can imagine. The sun gives light to the moon and the people who would go to the moon are people that weren't bad but they weren't too good neither and they will be guided by the sun, you can progress but not too much. The sun gives light to the moon and to the stars too, but the stars are smaller and you can barely see them sometimes, so the "bad" people will live in this world represented by the stars. Understand that that thing about living in the sun, the moon or the stars is just a representation of how things will be, to help explain it better, it doesn't mean that we will live in the sun, the moon or the stars, lol, no! They believe that family is the MOST important thing EVER. That's why some of them have several kids. It is important, very important to get marry and have children. They believe that you can baptize for dead people too. Mormons are very friendly people and I love being around them.

Check out www.lds.org or see if you can find some missionaries. We believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. We believe that Heavenly Father has a plan for His children, and it is based on love. We believe that the standard of marriage is one man, and one woman. The only time that has not been adhered to is when God wanted to help develop a strong base of Church members. In my opinion it was due to a shortage of men, probably due to the Civil War being about to start. Other answerers have mentioned that some men were killed off in the persecutions in Illinois and Missouri, etc. The principle of polygamy was a TEMPORARY one and was ended in 1890 by revelation. In my opinion, after the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, which we also believe in, there will be a period called the Millennium, where people will have the chance to work out family relationships, and the Resurrection will help show how the Atonement of Jesus Christ works. We believe in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and we believe that God continues to speak to a living prophet today, Gordon B. Hinckley. The reason why we avoid drinking can be found in Doctrine & Covenants 89, which is called the Word of Wisdom. There are "evils and designs" in the modern world perpetuated by men in charge of the alcohol industries in general, and tobacco companies as well. These things are harmful to your body and can lead to all kinds of health and spiritual problems. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

If you are talking about the LDS church the Church of Jesus Christ or Latter-day Saints. We believe in the word of wisdom, which is no smoking, drinking, etc. We also believe that family can be together forever even after life. And we certainly does not practise polygamy, people that practise it will be ex-communicated from the church. More than a hundred years ago the church practised because people were prosecuting the church, and many man died because of that. As the result many woman were left behind without anyone to take care of them. So at that time the church practised polygamy for that reason. By the way only 20% of the members practised polygamy at that time. And we certainly do not hate homosexual people, we do not believe in homosexual marriages, but they are still invited to our church. We believe that marriages are ordained of God and that marriage between and man and a woman is essential to his eternal plan. And like most of the other churches it is only 10% of your earnings. And we not not believe the more amount of tithing you pay the higher spot in heaven you are going to go. I mean I am only 17, I am still in school and does not have a job, thus does not have much income, i get a weekly allowance, and that is not that much, so do I go to hell?

No, Mormons do not marry more than one wife. My husband can barely keep me happy!
Jesus Christ is central to our beliefs and our faith. We believe in the Bible and we believe in the Book of Mormon as well.
As far as our dietary code goes, no, we do not drink alcohol, use tobacco, drink coffee or tea. We believe in eating foods which are healthy. It is not so strange for a religion to have a health/dietary code. The Jews have a very stringent code---the Kosher laws. And Muslims too have a code of what they do not eat.

Based on the premise that they think in similar ways to The Christian Community, Mormons don't drink or smoke as a way of seperating themselves from the rest of the world--they want to stick out. As for the ploygamy they deny now, but for a while they did marry many wifes.

As a former LDS member, i've got self belief it grew to become into via fact they early mormon individuals abused espresso and tea for the caffiene. They probable drank a ton of it and the effects have been noticable. only as in the smoking and bite spit have been an annoyance to Emma Smith and others, that grew to become a rule additionally. in my view i think of the LDS leaders ought to "obtain a revelation" or despite and re-examine the be attentive to understanding. *yet espresso and tea is such as you're eating acid to LDS so as that may no longer allowed. :) i be attentive to a ton of LDS people who abuse Mountain Dew, circulate determine.

One wife; no alcohol; no coffee or tea; eat good; 10% tithe; everyone should be educated (man and woman); love everyone and accept them and welcome them (regardless of race or sexual orientation); attempt to strictuly follow Jesus Christ; be baptized; families are very important, and can be together forever, if sealed by the priesthood; lastly, they are encouraged to avoid those things that detract from the spirit of God and Christ, which includes movies, music, trends, etc. However, with the last list of items, those are personal matters, with guidelines being set by the individual. Like Buddhist, many of their teachings are to assist the individual in overcoming the body or self. Hope this helps.

If you want a good summary of what they believe, have a look at bcmmin.org
They don't believe that the God of the Bible is theirs
They don't believe the Bible way of salvation
They don't have the same priesthood as the original. Jesus is the Aaronic and Melchizedek high priest and He is in that role forever. There ever was only 1 high priest at a time and Jesus is it!
They believe in the "worthy" doing a bunch of occultic practices in the temple.
