They are notorious for running away. That is one reason that there are so many in shelters and pounds.
Spaying/neutering helps this problem. However, you can never trust one to stay home without a fence, and they are often difficult to keep IN a fenced yard..

Just read this question forum for a few days, and you will see many questions about how to keep a Staffy at at home...They dig under, and climb fences.

Call your local humane society or animal control. Ask them how many wandering pit bulls or Staffies they pick up each week.

Dogs of any breed like to explore sometimes. But staffordshire bull terriers are not known for wandering. I love staffordshire bull terriers. Good choice in a dog in my opinion. Just be sure to do some more research so you know it is the right breed for you.

I have 3, and they're all different.
My older male patrols the property - he knows the borders and doesn't pass them. He got out the other day while we were at work/school, and when my son got home, TANK was waiting for him at the edge of the driveway.
My younger male is all bark, no bite. He stands as close to the house as possible, and barks his head off at any person in the area, but would prefer to never leave the house.
Both of them have neighborhood human "friends" that they recognize, and will cross the property line to greet those friends... although having these 150 lb dogs running up behind them tends to frighten the friends.
My female is a runner - She will take off at the first opportunity, usually looking for a cat, and keep going and going for as long as it takes us to catch her.
Staffordshires are very territorial and protective, so will tend to do whatever they feel necessary to protect their space and their humans, so they tend to stick close to home in order to keep an eye on things...at least that's my experience with most of them. Of course, there are exceptions.

Pit bulls were bred to fight other dogs so yes they do wander looking for a fight. Just hope to god he doesnt kill someones pet or worse a child. Attacks by stray pits are very common. Especially if they find another pit to wander with. Then their wolf pack mentality takes over which is deadly. Please do the community and yourself a favor and turn him into the shelter. Pits should be banned.

Dogs do, in fact, wander naturally. However, Staffordshires are typically extremely territorial and aggressive toward other dogs, making them want to "patrol" their territory.

They stay close to home, that is why they wonder what it is like to wander.
