Yes it will help some of the drivers and is a stp in the right direction. Now if they would do a race by race elimination so that the last place chase car is eliminated after each chase race they would be on the money.

many nascar fans seem to justify "the chase" by saying other sports have playoffs, why can't we?
this is the only sport where the guy who has had the best season is penalized when the playoffs begin.
rewarding the guy that wins the most races is a step in the right direction.but it still does not make the chase compatible with the current scoring system.
i agree with waltrip35.
back in the day, this sport was the equivalent of a 36-round title fight.
this chase nonsense is like resetting the score after 10 rounds to a one-point difference.
you can lose 8 of the first ten rounds, but if you win the last two,you are champion.
in 2005,when there was talk of a wildcard, after it was apparent jr. would miss the chase, this was his quote in the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION:
"IT TAKES AWAY FROM THE CREDIBILITY OF THE SPORT WHEN YOU GIVE SOMEONE A HELPING HAND JUST TO MAKE IT CLOSER."
isn't this an indictment of the entire chase system?!?!

i hate the whole chase system, not the concept but the application, i would do it like this, IF there has to be a chase
first no points for the regular season
you qualify for the chase by winning a race. only race winners may compete, to justify this i say second is the first looser. show me another sport where a team with zero wins makes the playoffs .... exactly!!
want it to go down to the last race? or better yet the last lap of the last race ? no more qualifying for the chase drivers. the starting grid for each chase race is identical to the finishing order of the last race. basically string the ten chase races into one long race. the champion is the first chase driver to finish the last lap of the last chase race.
i hate that a guy with a thousand point lead over second place can loose the championship to a guy that was in tenth and never won a race

I am not really sure where I stand on all of the changes. I like some of the changes like giving additional points to race winners. However, I am not completely sold on the idea of the chase consisting of 12 drivers instead of 10. Regardless, it should make for an interesting chase this year and I look forward to seeing whether it's better or worse.

Should have done that last year. Kahne will more then likely benefit from it since he seems to win a good amount of races during the season.

I think it will help, the winners will get rewarded and I think that is what the fans want to see, the guy who wins the most races getting a title shot instead of someone cruising in the top ten every week winning the title.

i like the fact that more points are awarded for winning a race. but i think there needs to be some sort of an elimination during the chase.

it is going to hurt consistent people, but hopefully they can keep the consistency in the chase and do well, i just hope that they decide on a format and keep it for many years
