My chocolate lab was injured....not sure exactly what happened.....late Tuesday. His paw pad on his back foot is ripped up pretty bad and his webbing in between his toes are ripped. Some minor scraps on his knee and thats about it. I dont know what exactly happened to him anyway....took him to the vet , nothing is broken and no serious injuries other than his foot. Question is....he has now laid around in his bed for the past two days...I have to force him to get up. He drinks eats all that good stuff but he just refuses to get up, frankly I am pretty sore from picking a 90 lb lab up and taking him outside. He seems like he is sore also..lol....should I just let him lay until he is ready to get up? Please no rude answers...Thanks a bunch

I'd take him back to the vet - sometimes, when swelling goes down, injuries can be better seen and something may have happened since - I wouldn't chance it and get a second opinion. Do it soon, my dog got hit by a car and we didn't know what was wrong with him until a week later - he'd had some internal bleeding. He's fine now, we took him back to a different vet.

well I can't imagine that the vet didn't give him anything for pain but if that's the case you might want to go to the store and get some Bayer aspirin and give it to your dog (1 pill)... it won't harm the dog and it will take away any of the stiffness and help relieve some of his pain... just keep an eye on him and make sure that he doesn't get any infections from the damaged pads on his paw... if he's eating and drinking regularly then I wouldn't worry too much... maybe call your vet in the next couple of days if he hasn't improved.. good luck... = )

I would say your dog is probably just sore, but you might call and ask your vet any time your dog has any kind of injury they should be seen for a fu visit about six weeks down the road. Just so you don't feel so bad my 100 lb dog is always like that just naturally lazy unless it comes to food.

He may have also strained a muscle or ligament depending on how he was injured but seeing that you dont know it may be anything. Check to make sure the injury isnt swollen or infected. He may also be playing the sympathy factor. My dobe does it all the time. Take him back to the vet just to insure there is no other problems only apparent now.

sounds like maybe his paw might have been nicked by a car.. i dont know if he has access to a street... but regaurdless of what happened to the paw.. i'd say his leg is sore muscles and nerves probably all the way up the leg probably even into his hip.... and it takes his leg and hip in order to get up.. now dont laugh at this answer but you might try applying either a heating pad on it a few minutes several times a day.. supervised, and u can use it on your soreness tooo.. sorry i wasnt being funny and i know it sounded like it..and another option is a hot water bottle applied to it.. a leg injury on a dog takes awhile to heal.. and usually a dog knows whats best for them to heal.. so i know you probably dont want to hear this but it's just going to take time.. good luck!

well the vet Will sometimes prescribe remadyll(sounds like rem-a dill)and it is a pain reliever and if you do not want to pay for the pills (can cost a pretty penny) you can give him 1 buffered aspirin 2 times daily until he fells better(you can call the vet to verify)..they get sore just like us when they get hurt...and it will make the pain less...well i hope he fells better... i work at a kennel and we have many dogs some old and some with injuries and they take both of the above...not at the same time.....

Ask the vet if you can apply something to help his healing, or if you can cover it and put extra pads on his pad to make it easy when he gets up on it. Poor baby, I hope he'll be better soon. I know its hard for you, but at the same time you don't want him to get into a rut, and then refuse to go out because he knows it hurts.

you know how you feel after working out? takes a couple of days to really feel sore,,, let him rest,, as long as he checked out ok at the vet and he is eating... let him be,,, if he doesn't get up in a day or so,,,, back to the vet could have been in a fight or hit by a car... maybe you could keep him in a fenced yard

I have a great dane who constantly has problems with his feet. except he wont lay down when they are torn up. Be glad your baby is smart enough to stay off his feet. This will help them to heal faster. Dogs feet heal fast, but the pressure that they apply when they stand will open up a wound just as soon as it was going to close up. Hope he feels better soon. As long as he is eating and drinking and all that I don't think you have a thing to worry about.

He just needs some recovery time. Be patient.
BTW, 90 lbs is very large for a lab (see the breed standard). His lethargy could be attributed to a combination of his injuries and his weight.
