I am an atheist. Gay people are not "awesome". Gay people are people. Don't try to force your point. Christians will eventually come to accept gays as new younger people become Christians and the older Christians die off. Homosexuality is so strange and alien to older Christians that many will not be able to accept homosexuality as long as they are alive. The Bible passages are just an excuse to believe as they do. They don't believe in slavery, yet the Bible condones it. Christians have historically picked out of the Bible what they wanted to pick out and ignored the rest. 500 years ago, Christians believed that the Sun revolved around the Earth. Anyone who said otherwise was condemned to death. Eventually they come around. Christians are generally people who have traded logic and rational thinking for the joy they feel, believing in Jesus and the thought of eternal bliss. Of course they don't realize that because they are still able to balance their checkbook, read the newspaper and vote Republican. Give them 20 years and Christians will be hugging gays.
