2-7 days;

First the mail has to be picked up and delivered to the post office. In a rural area that ends the day. In a big center then the mail is sorted by zip code and sent to the next step. In a rural area the sorting is done the next day and then the mail is sent on to the next step. Because volume takes time the mail from a big center could reach that step the morning after the mail was picked up or a day later.

Then the mail has to be loaded on a truck and sent to the other mail office. In rural areas this may require a transfer between several trucks, which could add 1-3 days to the trip. In a major center the mail goes out on a truck or it may go to an airplane for further transit. A lot of these carriers are independent of the Post Office. Carrying mail is a great contract; the cargo is light, needs little special handling and is usually locked in a container where only the container needs to be shipped. Mail is sent by independent truckers and on commercial jets like this. So the mail has to leave the hands of the Post Office and then it is transferred into the independent carries system. This can add more time to the delivery date.

Then the mail reaches the post office, if it does in the morning then it might get sorted by route and sent out with the carriers, but if it arrived after 9:00 am (local time) then it would be sorted and wait for the carrier next morning.

Example: You letter is picked up by the carrier and taken to the post office. Then it is sent to the regional post office for sorting. It was a good day so the sorting was finished before midnight. On the 2nd day the mail is sent to an interstate mail truck, an airline, or an independent trucking firm. If it goes by airline then it will arrive on the morning of the 3rd day. If it was sent by truck then it has to be sorted and sent to the post office. If the destinations are close it might also be ready by the morning of the third day. If it got in before the mail carriers leave then it could go out that day, but if not then it won't be until the 4th day.

Weekends don’t make much of a difference since the mail travels every day except Sunday. Junk mail is often not handled on Saturdays, but first class mail is.

Pay a little more and send the card by priority mail, which is guaranteed to get there in one to three days. They will know how long it will take and will be able to tell you how many days it will take at the Post Office where you send the letter out. Since you are only sending a card it should cost less than $1.00 it will receive special handling thus giving you a better chance of it not being misrouted or lost in the mail. If you send the letter as registered mail, for $2.00, then you will get a green receipt mailed back to you proving that the letter got there.

This is all a little complicated so I would just mail the letter by February 6.

The variability of how it is carried, who it is carried by, and when it arrives makes it difficult to really know exactly when a letter mailed by standard mail though the United States Post Office will actually arrive.

Depends on several variables. Which postal service you use. The senders location and the recipients location. If these are places and off the map, so to speak then it coud take at least 4-5 days. If it is between two major cities it should only take 2 days max. It may also depend if you sent it priority. If you sent in express then it should be there next day.

If it 11 hours away I would say 3-4 days just to be safe. My family & I are 8 hours apart and it usually takes 2-3 days for letters to reach eachother.

I have actually heard them all. Here are a few more for your list. My Grandmother just died. I'm really depressed. I'm busy and don't have time to date. I already have several boyfriends and don't want to add any more. This one was used on me in grade school "I'm not into dancing, I don't even want to go to the school dance." There is nothing more important the first time you meet someone than that instant physical attraction, so goodbye. I have a friend coming into town that day. I'm moving. I'm not into dating anyone younger than myself. I just don't think it's going to workout. I don't date coworkers. You are really such a sweet and nice person. I see you only as a friend. I just got out of a relationship. I just met someone. I have to work a triple shift at the diner every night this week. I know there's more that I've heard over the years besides whats on your list and what I just wrote, but I can't think of them right now.-thought of a few more. I have to do laundry that day. I just have nothing to wear. I can't because I have to go wash my hair. I just remembered I have plans to do something with my roommate. I'm hanging out with my friends that day. I can't commit to plans for next weekend and anything sooner is way to last minute for me. Very busy I have so many other things going on in my life.

I would give the mail time about a week and you could pay a higher rate for overnight or express and guaranteed it to get there on time.

Call your post office. Tell where you want it to go and they will tell you how long it takes and the time it will arrive.
