well duh MoLuiadh, hence the quotation marks around maple. All I want is maple flavoured syrup, because I can't afford to spend $20 per pint for syrup.. so thanks for stating the obvious!

And to everyone esle, thanks for your replies! :)

You can not make maple syrup without using maple sap. That is why it is called MAPLE syrup. The other stuff is nothing more than sugar and water. Even if you add flavouring it will never be as good as the real thing. The best kind of course comes from Canada, particularly from Ontario, or Quebec, or the Maritimes. ( New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia) Nothing compares to the real thing!

4 cups white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoons butter flavoring

2. Not so bad for you..........

2 teaspoons imitation maple flavor

In a 2-cup glass measure, combine cornstarch, sugar, salt and cold water.
Microwave on high 2-3 min.
or until syrup is clear and thickened, stirring every minute during cooking.
