I have 3 cats and they all have worms and were prescribed a one time pill (droncit feline) My guy will hold the cats in a towel to keep them from moving while I give them the pill...should I stick it in whole,in pieces or grind it up in water and use a syringe...which seems best to you?

First of all, I'm sorry your kitty isn't feeling well - hopefully she'll start taking the medicince and it'll help soon!
I don't have much experience here as we've only had to give my cat liquid meds from a dropper, which, while not easy, I can pretty much get him to swallow.
One thought about putting something with food, have you tried any of the pouch foods instead of canned (I know that IAMS and Whiskas both make this kind). The reason I say this is that some of the stuff in the pouches has a "gravy" in it, maybe the crushed pills will disolve better in that so your cat won't notice as much. I know my cat LOVES that gravy, so maybe yours will too .
If this does not work, try baby food idea is good, just check for NO garlic, especially in an already sick kitty. If this does not work try using this, I have sick cat, she love baby food and she does not notice the meds.
Hope it all works out soon for you!

I would recommend putting the pill, depending on it's size, in a little scoop of butter or margarine. If it is a large pill, break it in half and do this twice. Place the butter/pill inside the cats mouth and hold the cats mouth shut. Don't use force on your cat's mouth tho, just a firm amount of pressure to keep him from spitting the pill out. Tip the cats head back and rub his throat until you see him swallow the buttered pill. Use the towel method, just have your guy hold the cats tight enough to where they can't escape. Good luck!

Right. You need to gently open your cat's mouth by sticking your finger in the corner. Then throw that pill all the way back and quickly clamp the cat's jaw shut. Keep it shut until he swallows at least once, and then still check in about half a minute to see if he has gotten skilled at concealing the pill and spitting it back up. Reward him with praise, petting and a snack afterwards.

Its better if you do it sitting cross-legged on the floor. I didn't use a towel because that can panic the cat. Carefully pry open the cat's mouth and drop the pill as far back into its mouth as you can. If you keep the mouth open, it will have a harder time spitting the pill out.
Time release pills shouldn't be ground up.

Another way to keep your cat under control when you need to give them medicine, Take an old pillow case and cut about a two in length in one ofthe close corner of the bag. Make sure your cats headwill fit in the hole and come out, but not big enough to let the cat out, then when medicine time comes. pick up the cat and put it in the bag, the the end, and the cat will stick its head out the hole, then you pick up the bag and tada you don't get scrached, you can do it by yourself, and the cat doesn't get tramatized as much, this method worked great for me I hope you use it too.

There is a plunger that most pet stores sell. You put the pill on the end and it's like a syringe, you put the bottom part in their throat, not to gag them but in far enough so they can't spit it out. Push the plunger and it should go down the throat. Your man may need to still hold them but actually it only takes one hand, I can do it myself. Good luck.

A good way a lot of people will suggest is to put the tablet in a pice of the cat's favourite food, a slice of cheese, ham, chicken, pink salmon (if you spoil them enough to buy that each day for them) and they will have no problem taking the tablets without any fuss.
But with the cheese, it could take a few attempts, as the tablet will not stick to anything

i used to give my cat his thyroid meds by grinding them in a pill grinder and mixing it in a small scoop of whipped cream. they love whipped cream and wont even know they are taking their medicine. and since its a one time pill the whipped cream wont hurt any. this way you dont have to worry about holding them or them spitting out the pill.

well the best thing is to use a pill shooter...you can get them at the vet or pet shop....or if your cats are good eaters put it in cream cheese ....some pills should not be crushed....i work at a kennel and we board dogs and cats and we have to give them meds if they are on them...and we use the shooter most often
