Bullet-proof limo? The pope was recently shot.
The multimillion $ mansion; because it serves several functions and 'living quarters' are probably relatively small. Besides; who would presently want to discuss world matters with the pope in an 'out house'?

His position as head of the church obliges him to provide a venue to receive world dignataries and others.
He can hardly received them in a thatched hut. As for the bulletproof car he has a reason, he was fired on before.
