Im not pretentious to think that others cant think for theirselves.I believe people can make their OWN choices. To me NO abortion is the right CHOICE, but we have to offer a choice first.Taking away freedom to choose would kill the idealogy of what Americans fought & died for. Jesus taught compassion and not to judge thats why im PROCHOICE.
Abortion is a medical procedure that should be discussed btwn the woman & her doctor. Ive no right to infringe in anyones medical records.
Im AGAINST abortion.I DESPISE abortion & if I were a woman Id NEVER have one.Im male & wouldnt know how it is so I wont JUDGE her circumstances. I wouldn't know if she was raped, whether the pregnancy will hurt her and the child's health, psych problems etc. Its NOT my business. Its a SENSITIVE issue. Its a MEDICAL issue btwn her and her M.D.
Just like war. War is KILLING. Many babies & adults die in war. But is there ever a reason to go to war?

giggly..you neglected to mention another reason why a woman might have an abortion--health reasons, be it the womans or child's health. the doctor has to decide with the woman. ultimately it is the women's decision.
prolifers who are so against choice should focus on the issues you've mentioned such as community support and eliminating the stigma of single bothers, rather than blowing up medical facilities that perform abortions.
also if jesus said love, not to kill...why are we killing so many people in iraq?

meg..since when did america fight for the right to enslave people? Since when did our forefathers say everyone has the right to own slaves?
pro choice is about freedom. slavery isn't.

What you're describing is called pro-choice....Proponents of a woman's right to choose are rarely actively in favor of abortion.
The reverse would be like saying, "I'm pro-life, but I still value the worth of women."

It sounds as if your duality issue between pro-choice and abortion is the root of why many are against Pro Choice.
In an Utopist society, the woman would not even entertain the idea of abortion. Her problems like money, rape, financial means, prostitution, and love of male partner would instantly lead her to naturally love this life form that was created out of LOVE (healthy spiritual sex). Jesus suffered; and his suffering taught us how to deal with suffering in our lives, and he didn't say "kill" rather he said to love.
My hardest part with abortion is the suffering that goes into the action of the abortion. In your paragraph, you said its a decision between "Woman and Physician" ... well, if I'm not mistaken, the man also has a big part in this decision (should the woman be able to identify him). Of course, history has had too many men whom yell, bully and intimidate pregnant women into abortions. This is why Roe vs. Wade was passed (stop home/ back ally abortions) ... however, even if the woman doesn't say a thing to the man who's baby she's aborting; she still feels the suffering that she imagines and is basing her decisions on fear rather than fact and compromise.
When many of the women are offered helping hands (parents, siblings, friends, churches), they are able to climb out of the pit of despair and give birth to the child. The movie, "North Country" showed how a rapped woman took the child from that rape and the child was the cure for the rape. I believe that too many want the quick way out without exploring the reason the gift of children were given to them. They'd be more willing to explore if we as a community opened up more to them instead of pointing ways to abortion centers.
Abortion is murder - a life form was deprived of life for the benefit of another human being/s. Sure war is killing too ... and these are sins between the sinner and God ... however, I feel that we can do more to help people out of situations where they may have to kill (abortion, or war).

Thats actually good for being against abortion. But there are reasons like being raped, and other reasons. Well for Allah I know that the Quraan states that you can have an abortion under reasons like the woman is in danger in health or the baby but the other religions have reasons too of doing abortion. Like me i'm in between becasue their are good reasons why you can do abortion but some people do it, just becasue they don't want a baby(thats cruel).

>>I am PRO-CHOICE but AGAINST abortion. Does that make sense?<<
It makes as much sense as does this:
"I'm not pretentious to think that others can't think for themselves. I believe people can make their OWN choices. To me, NO chattel slavery is the right CHOICE, but we have to offer a choice first. Taking away freedom to choose would kill the ideology of what Americans fought & died for. Jesus taught compassion and not to judge that's why I'm PRO-CHOICE."

You have the right to your own opinions and the right to your feelings and thoughts however, I agree with you because I have a daughter and she's the most beautiful being that have ever happened in my life and I appreciate everything that the Lord has given me. She's beautiful and I love her plenty, unconditional love. But people do whatever it is that pleases them to do and everyone is going to be judged according to their actions and you are going to be judged according to your actions. Therefore, don't worry about others just worry about you and those that want to be changed.

I'm Buddhist, I'm against abortion but I'm pro-choice because I don't believe in foisting my views upon others. It's not like people are ignorant, in this "shrunken" world, to the consequences of an abortion, and many have their reasons for doing it regardless of those consequences, so it's not my place to push my values on others.

It makes sense to me. As a woman I could not have an abortion. I feel it would be morally wrong for me. Yet I will defend the right of every woman to make that choice for herself.

I know how you feel. You ask what God would think (all of them are the same One, you know). Well, according to my Quran, I'm not allowed to force religion on anyone. I'm pro choice, but would never have an abortion myself because that's my own choice. I don't feel that I am entitled to tell another woman what to do with her body as I don't know her financial situation, I don't know her temperament towards children, and I don't know if she was raped or could die from it.

Standing resolutely for what you believe to be right and against what you believe to be wrong was one of the virtues in this great country. We have now replaced this courage with tolerance (a mistaken definition of the word) and the unwillingness to offend someone. Truth has been replaced with opinion and each persons interpretation of what they hear. With God there is absolute truth and we, being lesser creatures, can not go toe to toe with Him in debate and expect to win. God has given us direct instruction to help protect those who can not protect themselves...to not offer our children to gods (the god of convenience comes to mind) and has told us to not call evil good or good evil. Let's not split hairs or worry about offending someone with truth. Speak the truth in love, do not condemn another, but do not hesitate to tell the truth.

There are plenty of people who refuse to see the forest for the trees. A child is inconvenient so they'll make up any excuse why killing is "good". As for the "go adopt a million unwanted kids": 1. There are more people on adoption waiting lists then there are children to adopt. 2. It's a logical fallacy to suggest that dead is "better off" than "unwanted".
