I take meds, but I also went through a couple of years of cognitive behaviorial therapy, which REALLY helped -- it gave me some valuable tools for coping that are very useful when the depression isn't too deep. Sometimes by using those tools I can even keep starting-level depression from getting worse.
But what really made the difference for me was regular physical exercise: 30-45 minutes per day, 6 days per week, at least 20 minutes of which is high cardio (heart rate in the 120-130 beats per minute range). Apparently it's a magic bullet for a lot of people, especially those with treatment resistant depression. It's difficult to get started at first, but I saw results within the first couple of weeks of doing it.
Has your doctor prescribed any "spot use" medications? By that I mean medications that are only to be taken once in a while when the depression gets really bad. Myself, I have Diazepam, a tranquillizer, and Serzone, an antipsychotic which I take when the suicidal feelings get really bad; it's like a two-by-four across the forebrain, it really stops the negative thought loops dead and gives me time to recover.
I'm sorry to hear you're in such a dark place, and I wish you the best of luck.

Depression is everywhere, some brains are just wired better to cope. This is why all of the drug companies are formulating anti-depressants. My sister in law, my husband's co-worker, my mother, my grandfather, my best friends mother (who ended up going back to school and getting her doctorate in psychology to help others with depression) - all had different paths to try and deal with this. None were short. At least today it's acceptable as a legitimate illness and not looked down upon. This is why Brooke Shields wrote a book on post partum depression. There are a gazillion medications, some take awhile to work, sometimes you need a change. Please don't finish the job. If things aren't changing then you need to change your counselor, doctor and perhaps meds. Some meds can cause depression and suicidal thoughts to increase - which is why the warning labels always say to call your doc immediately if you have these thoughts. Don't feel guilty about leaving your counselor to go to another. A diploma on the wall doesn't mean they graduated with all "A's"! Are you working? If not you need to fill your time with something productive that makes you feel worthwhile. If you come really close to finishing the job, call your local crisis hotline, go to the ER. It would be best if you are not alone during this time of stabilizing on the meds. And if your insurance covers it, there is absolutely not shame in asking to be admitted to an inpatient unit where they can monitor you and your meds. My grandfather and best friends mom both went the inpatient route, as did my husband's co-worker. My sister in law had daily intensive therapy and 2 or 3 medication changes and my mother had therapy several times a week along with medication. It can be conquered!

The fact that you overcame twice says that there is something special about you.
Its up to you now to do something special.
I once was suicidal; wish I were dead many times, tried it once and I thank God that I failed.
The fear of failure was and is my biggest fear, but it is one thing that I am quite grateful that I failed at.
Start something knew that would help rebuild your selfconfidence, something that you always wanted to do or wish that you could do; fact is if he could do it you can do it better.
Although its harder said than done, develop a social life and widen your friendship core. A game of pool, a guitar lesson.
The meds would help you relax but a pet would probably provide imeasureable comfort.....All the best.
Didn't I see you on the bus? is a good way to start a conversation. It may also help if you keep a journal.

hey, I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain, i hope you can find a way to deal with it other than suicide. can i suggest that you get in touch with a close friend, tell them that you have been feeling really low - you don't have to go into details and ask if they could be there for you when you are in crises, just to talk to or come over and be with you. It's not much help in regards to your emotions i know but it might help to keep you safe while you have strong feelings of wanting to hurt yourself. I hope you can find the strength to live.

Joe,
first off DON'T DO IT!
I don't know what your situation is but killing yourself just isn't the answer.
You need support from friends & family & the help of a counselor or a psychiatrist.
I've been depressed before & have sometimes thought about it but I've never tried to actually do it because I know that it's wrong & that I would be missed.
don't do it
take care

I took meds for my depression but they only made things worse so I just stuck with weed and haven't had any serious episodes since. i've never tried tot ake my own life though. you should really just step outside for a minute and take a look around you. life is an oppertuinity you have only once. there's nothing before or after. why waste it on such a pathetic cause?

I've dealt with it all. Self injury, thoughts and planning of suicide. I've never seen a therapist though, I deal with it in unhealthy ways that I know I shouldn't.. but it's become a part of my life and I'd be more screwed up without it.

No, yet i did try to assorted circumstances to consume soup with a spoon, tremendously if a soup is thick (you may thicken the soup effectively via including some flour). It takes greater time, so I relish it longer

It is time to get to know your Creator. God the Father, Almighty. And it would be great if you could go to Church and learn more about faith, and who you are ! Would you like to give this a chance, it will change your life.
