I.e. When working in a 130 bedded homeless hostel (where I issueds medication) and looking at both mine and friends prescriptions.
There are only a handfull of drugs prescribed for many many conditions.
When checking the BNF pharmacy manual, these are some of the cheapest drugs available and at a fraction of the cost of a general paid prescription..
Just look up in the BNF and see.

i cannot say fer sure, that would probably take an investigation

of som sort. What i can say is that Most of us have and are

being taught under the auspeses of a (type of) crude darwinism;

(nothing scary,just true!). So cost-effectiveness'rules', even

though other factors are at play.

Are you sure you're not getting mixed up between the proprietary and generic forms of drugs? eg 20 tablets of generic paracetamol as listed on BNF costs 31p, but if you go into a pharmacy and buy some Panadol you'll pay over £3 - ten times that amount.

It's the same drug, it has the same effects, you just get a posher packet and a less chalky tablet with the Panadol. It would be madness for the NHS to pay the higher amount.

If that's not what you mean then I'm not quite sure what your question is.
