Okay, this is what happened. I'm using fake names, because it can kind of get confusing. So there's this girl I met recently, let's call her Stacy. Stacy's really nice and everything so we became friends. So today when I saw Stacy she was really sad and stuff. So I asked her what's wrong. At first she didn't want to tell me, but then she said that her friend Lisa has an eating disorder. Stacy told me that Lisa forces herself to vomit after eating, and she mostly does it in bathrooms, but sometimes in bowls or jars. I know it sounds disgusting. Stacy even said that it's gross. The problem is, I have never talked to Lisa in my life. I barely know how she looks like. But I'm still really worried... Stacy said that Lisa made her promise to not tell anyone about it. Stacy's really scared. What should I do?

well first of all....dont ever tell Stacy anything you dont want anyone knowing about because clearly she cant keep a secret

if Stacy is really that concerned then she needs to tell Lisa's parents. sure it will piss Lisa off and Stacy might end up ignored and made fun of for being a snitch, but if shes that worried then it shouldnt matter to her

I would tell Stacy to talk to Lisa more about it. She should tell Lisa that she cares a lot about her and that she doesn't want to see Lisa hurt herself like this. You can change this to however you feel but it might be wise to let Lisa know how Stacy feels.

It is obviously not healthy for Lisa to have an eating disorder and she should get some kind of help immediately. There are various treatments such as psychological therapy, counseling, and medication for depression (if that is the case).

It may be difficult for Lisa to follow treatment because an eating disorder is difficult to get rid of. Tell her that it is best for her to get some help and to fix this problem.

Hopefully I helped...good luck and I hope you girls work this out.

Ask Stacy who Lisa is or if you have ever crossed paths with Lisa. If Lisa is underage, either you or Stacy need to tell Lisa's parents. I know Stacy made a promise but if the promise involves someone hurting themselves then the promise can be broken.

Ask Stacy to try to send her friend Lisa to get help for her problem before something really bad happens to her

Lisa's health is in trouble; she needs help. Keeping bulimia (inducing vomiting) a secret is not going to help at all. But anyway, people are going to notice (the smell, the noise, her going to the bathroom all the time after meals) so it won't be kept a secret. She needs help and you and stacy can talk to parents so she can get the help she needs in overcoming this eating disorder. If she becomes healthy again with your help, and she will if she gets good help, why would she be angry at you for breaking a ridiculous promise in the first place?

Since what Lisa is doing can be life threatening, someone who can take action needs to be notified. If you are in school, your school's guidance counselor would be a good choice. In spite of Stacy's promise, there are times when one should break that promise when a person's life and welfare is at stake.

Tell Stacy to talk to Lisa about it. Try to get it into conversations and such. If her mom/dad/quardian doesn't know about it, TELL THEM. Her life literally depends on it. Vomitting can cause so many problems, not just with your stomach but the acid causes throat irritation and could lead her to extreme problems. If she wants to live, tell her she needs to get help. If she doesn't, there's a link to the suicide help line number on my starred list. But first tell her parents, contact her family doctor, and find some telephone numbers that can help her privately.

Everyone is beautiful, tell her that. Tell her that people with their ribs sticking out aren't pretty. Real women have curves. Now skinny models are becoming banned because they are a bad role model. I bet any young child who has the same feelings about herself will follow her if she continues showing that. She's obviously not overweight, so I have no idea why she is so concerned. Good luck and God bless.

tell stacy that this is SERIOUS stuff and that her friend can really die from this. ask her to tell an adult (teacher, parent guidance counseler) and that even tho she is breaking the promise-she will be saving a life and later on lisa will thank her. if she doesnt do anything about it then u eventually will have to.

good luck!

You do nothing. You don't know Lisa, you are not supposed to know this "secret". Her friend is bulemic, and it's very dangerous. The most you can do is be a third person, INVISIBLE, and try to help your friend help hers to get better. It's no easy task, and can be VERY time consuming, energy draining, frustrating, and 99% of the time nothing you do will ever help until they WANT to get better. It's a mental illness, and this girl needs professional care.
